The Client Compliance Analyst (Second Line of Defense) is responsible for providing independent oversight, review, and challenge of first-line business activities related to client contract adherence, billing practices, and contractual performance obligations. This role ensures the mortgage servicer operates in alignment with contractual requirements, regulatory expectations, and internal compliance standards, while maintaining appropriate separation from execution activities.
The Analyst evaluates the effectiveness of controls, identifies risks, and provides credible challenge to ensure accurate billing, proper expense reimbursement, and fulfillment of all client obligations.
• Review and interpret client contracts, Statements of Work (SOWs), and servicing agreements to identify key compliance risks, fee structures, and obligations
• Provide independent validation of first-line interpretations of contractual terms, including pricing, allowable fees, reimbursable expenses, and service level commitments.
• Challenge business assumptions and interpretations where contractual ambiguity or risk exists.
• Perform risk-based reviews and testing of client invoices to assess accuracy and adherence to contractual requirements.
• Evaluate first-line billing controls and processes to ensure fees charged are supported, appropriate, and compliant.
• Identify issues, trends, or control weaknesses related to billing practices.
• Independently assess whether fees and expenses billed to clients align with contractual terms and applicable guidelines.
• Validate that billed expenses reconcile to actual disbursements through sample-based testing and control reviews.
• Ensure expenses are allowable, properly documented, and not duplicative or excessive.
Monitor adherence to key contractual obligations, including timely delivery of required client and investor reports, audit report issuance and response timelines, and client notification and disclosure requirements.
Assess adequacy of controls ensuring timely and accurate fulfilment of obligations.
Escalate risks associated with missed or deficient deliverables.
• Develop and maintain compliance monitoring routines focused on client billing and contractual obligations.
• Prepare reporting for senior management on compliance risks, monitoring results, and issue trends.
• Support governance forums by providing insights into emerging risks and control effectiveness.
Experience
• Preference for 3 years of experience in mortgage servicing, audit, compliance, risk management, and/or contract oversight.
• Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
