Job Description

If you enjoy providing great service and working in a team, we have just the opportunity for you at our Colchester practice. We’re looking for a friendly, proactive, and positive individual to join our Client Care team. This is a varied and rewarding role that sits at the heart of both our busy first-opinion practice and our new Referral & ECC Hospital.

What your typical day will look like

You will be a key member of our client care team, working across both the general practice and the referral hospital. Your day will be varied and interesting, involving front-of-house and call centre duties, referral coordination, and ensuring every client feels welcomed and well looked after, from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcoming clients and providing exceptional front-of-house service
  • Handling inbound calls, digital messages, emails, and appointment bookings
  • Assist our Hospital Operations Coordinators with referrals between first-opinion practices and our clinical team
  • Supporting vets and nurse with patient admissions, discharges, and taking payments
  • Maintaining accurate records and smooth communication across both sites
  • Helping the clinical teams with day-to-day administrative support

This role is full or part time working with weekends on a rota basis

The attributes required

  • A warm, friendly and professional manner — especially with anxious clients
  • A strong can-do attitude and natural problem-solving ability
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to work well under pressure while staying positive
  • A genuine team player who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
  • Reliability and a real passion for delivering outstanding client care

Previous veterinary experience will be beneficial but not essential— we value the right attitude, excellent communication skills, and a genuine desire to help people and their pets far more than specific experience. Full training will be provided.

Benefits

  • Salary from £26,500- £28,500 per annum (FTE), depending on your level of relevant client care experience
  • Flexible shift patterns (full-time or part-time considered)
  • 28 days annual leave including bank holidays
  • Pension scheme
  • Colleague discount including 20% discount at Pets at Home
  • Full training and ongoing development support
  • The chance to be part of a growing, forward-thinking veterinary ecosystem

This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who loves working with people and animals, wants variety in their day, and is looking for a supportive team where their contribution is genuinely valued.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

We take our inspiration from pets in embracing people from all walks of life, and we value, respect and celebrate difference. We encourage our people to be their best selves so that we can create a better world for Pets, our Planet, and People. Our ambition is to reflect the diversity of the communities we operate in, and we are intentional in addressing and removing barriers to create opportunities for the exceptional talent and potential in our communities. Even if your skills and experience don’t perfectly align, if you think you can make a unique contribution through your values and behaviours, we want to hear from you!

About Pets at Home

Since 1991, when we were a wholesaler with a team of just 15, we’ve been focused on getting better every day. By putting pets before profit, working as a team and taking pride in everything we do, we’ve grown into a 451 store network with more than 8,913 colleagues working in our Stores, Grooming Salons, Distribution Centres and Support Office.

We are the UK’s leading pet specialist, providing pet owners with all their product needs, as well as our Vets for Pets practices and Grooming salons. We support our colleagues to work with pride and passion, to bring honesty and integrity to work every day, and to do it all with a sense of fun and fearlessness. We never shy away from having the important conversations and doing what we say we’ll do.

Our values and behaviours are practiced daily across the business and are what really makes us an enjoyable, exciting place to work. We're always striving to develop and reward our colleagues with an extensive in-house series of training programmes, wellbeing initiatives and a comprehensive benefits package. In 2018 we were delighted to be voted top 5 in the Great Place to Work UK’s Large category.

Our colleagues are central to the success of the business and are fully trained in pet care and dedicated to animal welfare. Pets are central to everything that we do and 93% of colleagues have their own pets too!
