The Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center is seeking an experienced and professional Office Clerk IV who will provide administrative support for an inpatient unit. The selected candidate should be flexible, dependable, and interact well with professional staff, clerical support staff and patients. The Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center is an inpatient hospital of the Department of Mental Health.
Please Note: This is a full-time position, 37.5 hours Monday through Friday with weekends off.
Duties and Responsibilities: (these duties are a general Summary and not all inclusive):
Provides coordination of patient and unit information to ensure facilitation of accurate and timely communication.
Facilitates and contributes to the efficient operations of the Unit so that communication on the Unit both within the department and interdepartmentally is maintained.
Coordinates patient schedules and appointments on and off the Unit to ensure the accurate and timely completion of necessary tests and appointments.
Contributes to the productivity and cost effectiveness of the Department and the Center.
Maintains the patients' medical records from admission to discharge.
Contributes to effective interpersonal and Community relations to ensure the quality of Patient Care and to promote a positive Image of the Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center.
Other duties as assigned by Nurse Managers and Administration.
Required Qualifications:
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to prioritize and balance work tasks in a demanding environment.
Experience using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Experience with editing text using a style guide.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information.
Ability to build databases and to manipulate information in Excel.
Knowledge of office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Capacity to communicate clearly and courteously with supervisors, clients, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Excellent interpersonal skills and professional manner in dealing with clients.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to read, write and speak English effectively.
Knowledge of use of computer programs such as Microsoft word, Excel, Access, Power-point, etc.
Knowledge of Joint Commission standards, Department of Mental Health, and Department of Public Health standards applicable to Health information services
Familiarity with CMS standards
Knowledge of Chart Record keeping

The Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Mental health Center, (Fuller) 60 bed inpatient psychiatric facility provides comprehensive, information and timely forensic evaluations for individuals to determine pre-trial competency and or criminal responsibility. We also provide quality, integrated care to support an individual’s recovery process through ongoing psychiatric treatment and care.

Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in office work, or (B) and equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below:
I. A diploma as evidence of graduation from the commercial or business course of a recognized high school or vocational/technical high school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience. *
II. A diploma as evidence of graduation from a course other than the commercial or business course of a recognized high school or vocational/technical high school or possession of a Massachusetts high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for a maximum of eight months of the required experience. *
III. A diploma for completion of a one year, full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized, non-degree granting business or secretarial school above the high school level may be substituted for a maximum or one year of the required experience. *
IV. A diploma for completion of a two-year, full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized, non-degree granting business or secretarial school above the high school level may be substituted for two years of the required experience.*
* Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
