As a Public Assistance Clerk I, you will provide a wide range of customer support to our constituents seeking information. You will assist customers with Assessor applications and processes, answer questions, and help resolve issues related to property ownership and assessment.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop a broad understanding of the Assessor’s Office by learning multiple processes and programs across several divisions. You will also gain valuable knowledge of how the Assessor’s Office works in conjunction with the Recorder’s and Treasurer’s Offices to provide accurate and effective service to the public.
This position is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys learning, solving problems, working with the public, multitasking, and adapting to new processes in a fast-paced environment.

We Require
Two years of clerical, administrative, and/or technical support duties, preferably in a customer service-related office environment
High school diploma or GED
An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum requirements on a year-for-year basis
We Also Value
Proficient in multitasking and experience working in a fast-paced environment
Experience handling the intake of data, including receiving and processing documents
Experience working with legal descriptions, title research, and permit processing
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams) and OnBase
Job Contributions
Ensure prompt, customer-focused, and accurate customer services to property owners, property owner representatives, and other citizens at the Assessor’s front counter by answering questions related to property ownership, property maps, and records assessment
Explain Assessor processes, help with applications for valuation relief programs, resolve problems, etc.
Address the above in-person, over the phone, via email, and respond to mail
Support accurate Assessor records by data entry of rental registrations, mailing address changes, situs addresses, Legal Class Verification, application information processing, and tax clearances for mobile homes by accessing MVD and Treasurer’s sites to ascertain meeting requirements
Support other areas by assisting with notice of claims, ownership, and mobile homes processes
Perform other special projects as needed, such as data entry, quality control, mail distribution, or handling time-sensitive material and confidential information
