Role: Cleaning Supervisor

Location: Scottish Borders campus

Grade and Salary: Grade 5 -£26,707 - £31,236 per annum

FTE and working pattern: Full Time (1 FTE 5 /7 including weekends and statutory days, monthly rosters subject to change. Additional hours required at peak times), Open Ended

About our Team

This role is based within Hospitality Services, which is responsible for the delivery of all aspects of cleaning the internal public areas and spaces across the Scottish Borders Campus (Jean Muir Student Village and The High Mill) The High Mill spans four floors while the accommodation comprises 218 rooms across three blocks.

Our Scottish Borders campus is located approximately 40 miles from the main Edinburgh Campus, the team is very much an essential and intrinsic part of the Estates and Facilities Directorate

As a significant contributor to the University’s operations, Hospitality Services accounts for nearly 10% of the workforce, with Residential and Cleaning Services representing almost half of that community.

Purpose of Role

To ensure an effective and efficient operation of cleaning services within the Heriot Watt University Scottish Borders campus. To  participate  in the  day-to-day  programmes of cleaning work within the  allocated  cleaning zones of the University to ensure that the facilities are  maintained  in a clean and hygienic condition.

To actively contribute to the successful delivery of excellent service to all students,  staff  and visitors across the university  by keeping the student accommodation, public areas, offices, meeting  rooms, teaching and work spaces clean and tidy and fit for use.   

of Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Day to day responsibility for all Heriot-Watt cleaners, directing, supervising,  training  and motivating to deliver the cleaning schedule for all the designated areas   
2. Planning and implementing daily work schedules and staffing levels in keeping with the demands of the business   
3. Ensure all buildings, residences, offices, classrooms etc served by the team deliver a positive impression and are  maintained  to meet customer expectations and service level agreements  
4. Work with the Facilities Supervisor, Operations manager and and Deputy Village manager to  forward  plan staff and work schedules for all areas to meet the requirements of the business throughout the year
5. Be responsible and accountable for quality control inspections, audits of accommodation and follow up where  required. Manage stock levels and be accountable for same  

Education, Qualifications & Experience

These are the criteria on which the short-listing and recruitment  selection  will be based.  

Essential

1. Experience of working within a similar environment as outlined above   
2. Experience or relevant qualifications in the hospitality industry  
3. Good numeracy and IT skills  
4. Competent in the use of relevant IT packages   
5. Well-developed interpersonal skills   
6. Demonstrable professional and proactive approach  
7.  Demonstrable ability to work quickly,  flexibly  and accurately in a dynamic,  changing  and pressured environment  
8. Demonstrable provision of excellent customer service   
9. Willingness to learn  

Desirable

1. Educated to  HND level or similar  or equivalent experience  
2. Experience of leading small teams of operatives  
3. Experience of supervisory practice and principles   
4. BICS Trainer Certificate  
5. Experience of operating relevant cleaning equipment
