West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) is the second largest in the country, delivering prevention, protection and response services across the West Midlands.

Within the cleaning services department we are currently servicing 38 fire stations, our transport workshop and our Command Development Centre, plus our main headquarters in Birmingham. The post-holder would report to the Cleaning and Catering Manager, within Facilities Management.

This permanent post is based at one of our fire stations. However, there are frequent opportunities for overtime, providing cover at other stations.

The role entails cleaning offices, hallways, stairs, mess rooms, toilets and changing facilities.

You would be working on your own in the station, so you would need to work using your own initiative to the cleaning specification set by your line manager.

We continually recognise and promote the values of diversity, inclusion, cohesion and equality within our service and the communities in which we serve. We stand united against all forms of discrimination.

The communities of the West Midlands are entitled to expect the highest standards of conduct from all our employees. The ideal candidate will demonstrate their commitment and professionalism, in line with the organisation's high values and expected behaviours.

WMFS prides itself on being an inclusive employer and we welcome applications from all backgrounds.

We have a range of benefits available to our staff, from flexible/agile working arrangements to a generous flexi-time scheme. We also provide:

  • free, on-site gym facilities
  • access to an in-house occupational health facility, including:
  • occupational health advisors
  • fitness advisors
  • sports therapists
  • physiotherapists
  • cognitive behavioural therapy practitioners
  • counsellors.
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
  • wellbeing programmes
  • free car parking
  • Sports and Welfare scheme (for a small fee), with access to discounted products and services.

To apply, please complete the application questions outlining your skills and experiences in line with the job description.

Our recruitment and selection procedures reflect our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and adults. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment.

This role requires a Basic DBS check.

Although the hours are set, there is flexibility. If you would a one-to-one discussion about the role, feel free to email kristy.cooper@wmfs.net
