Are you passionate about helping others live safer, healthier, more independent lives? Join our team at Waythrough and support people facing challenges around mental health, substance use, housing or domestic abuse. This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to build meaningful relationships and create lasting change.

About the role

We are looking for a reliable and caring Cleaner / Cook to join our team at Colindale Services. This is a varied and rewarding role where you'll help create a clean, safe and welcoming environment for people using our services, while preparing nutritious meals that support their health and wellbeing.

Working as part of a supportive team, you will play an important role in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, infection prevention and control, food safety and environmental hygiene across the service. You will contribute to a positive, recovery-focused environment where people are treated with dignity, respect and compassion.

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference every day by helping ensure our accommodation is safe, comfortable and welcoming for everyone.

What you'll do

As our Cleaner / Cook, you'll be responsible for maintaining excellent standards throughout the service by:

  • Cleaning communal areas, offices, kitchens, bathrooms, dining rooms and, where appropriate, people's rooms.
  • Vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting and sanitising all areas to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Maintaining high standards of Infection Prevention and Control.
  • Replenishing cleaning materials and consumables, monitoring stock levels and reporting when supplies need replacing.
  • Safely disposing of waste and completing cleaning schedules and records.
  • Reporting maintenance issues, hazards or faulty equipment promptly.
  • Preparing and cooking nutritious meals and refreshments for people using the service.
  • Supporting menu planning that reflects dietary, cultural, religious and health requirements.
  • Ensuring food is prepared, stored and served safely in line with Food Safety regulations.
  • Maintaining excellent kitchen hygiene and monitoring food storage temperatures.
  • Assisting with food ordering and stock rotation.
  • Promoting healthy eating and creating positive mealtime experiences.
  • Following all organisational policies relating to Health and Safety, Infection Prevention and Control, COSHH, safeguarding and food hygiene.
  • Using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriately.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to support a respectful, recovery-focused environment.
  • Attending supervision, team meetings, mandatory training and annual appraisal sessions.
  • Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in everything you do.

What we are looking for

We're looking for someone who is dependable, organised and takes pride in providing a clean, welcoming environment while supporting the wellbeing of others.

You'll ideally have:

Essential

  • The ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • The ability to prepare simple, nutritious meals following guidance and training.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to follow procedures and complete basic records accurately.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
  • A willingness to complete all mandatory training.
  • A commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • A reliable, flexible and trustworthy approach.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in cleaning, housekeeping, catering or food preparation.
  • Experience working within health, social care, supported housing or residential care settings.
  • A Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Awareness of COSHH.
  • Training in Infection Prevention and Control.
  • Health and Safety training.

Successful applicants will be required to complete mandatory training, including Health and Safety, Food Hygiene, Infection Prevention and Control, COSHH, Safeguarding, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

Please note that duties may change from time to time following consultation with the post holder and line manager. This job description will be reviewed periodically to ensure it continues to meet the needs of the service and the organisation.
