TITLE: Classroom Teachers (Grade 4 or 5) - Multiple Openings at Talbot Community School

Talbot School is seeking energetic, enthusiastic, and creative 4th and 5th Grade teachers to join our team. We are looking for teachers who have a passion for working with children, brings an equity-oriented approach to their instruction, and who hold all students to high expectations. Strong candidates will have experience in conducting rigorous inquiry-based instruction across content areas. We are seeking teammates who are collaborative and open to giving and receiving feedback in service of the shared goals of the school and the district. ** NOTE: 2 of the 3 openings are for permanent positions, but 1 is for a 1-Year-Only, filling in for a teacher on a leave of absence.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of PPS curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, PPS policies, and effective instructional practices.
• Understanding of the teaching/learning process.
• Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
• Ability to infuse technology into curriculum.
• Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and community.
• Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university

CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Maine State fingerprint (CHRC) authorization (more info)
• Maine State Teacher Certificate with General Elementary Endorsement, K-6 or K-8 (020)

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS:

• Schedule: School year, Full Time, 1.0 FTE
• Assignment: 2 openings are permanent, but 1 is 1-Year-Only (filling in for a teacher on leave)
• Contract: Part of the PEA union (see 2025-2028 CBA here)
• Salary Based on education and experience per CBA

Gerald E. Talbot Community School is a Pre-K through Grade 5 school of nearly 400 students named in honor of Gerald E. Talbot, one of the most cherished and respected community leaders in Portland, ME. We are proud of our diverse population of learners from around the world, who speak 23 different languages. Talbot is a Title I school and is also recognized by the MDOE as a community school, which means we focus on meeting not only the academic needs of our students but also their broader developmental needs, including ensuring their physical and mental health, promoting their social and community engagement and supporting and strengthening their families and neighborhood.
