  • Barningham CEVC Primary School

  • Address: Barningham, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk IP31 1DD
  • Salary: MPR
  • Hours: Part time, 2 days per week, Thursdays and Fridays
  • Contract: Permanent. Required from 1 September 2026
  • Reference: 8690

Barningham CEVC Primary School is seeking a motivated and creative Class Teacher to join our fantastic team from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a supportive village school community and make a real impact on pupils’ learning.

This is a permanent, part-time position for two days per week (Thursday and Friday), working in partnership with a long-standing and experienced part-time teacher as part of a job share.

You will have the ability to teach across the primary age range, with previous experience demonstrating impact within the classroom.

The role will involve planning, teaching and assessing a mixed-age class. As a small village primary, we combine year groups, offering a unique and rewarding teaching experience. You will need to work confidently within a job share arrangement and contribute positively to wider school life. Please contact the school for further details about the class structure.

Our mission is to support pupils, staff and our community to grow in faith, grow in our learning and grow our future world.

The school was judged Good in all areas by Ofsted (January 2025).

We are a small rural village primary school serving the parishes of Barningham, Coney Weston and Knettishall, although a number of our children do come from out of catchment.

The school has a Voluntary Controlled Status under the diocese of St Edmundsbury.

The buildings date from 1859, with more modern additions, and are set in attractive fenced grounds with two playgrounds, grassed areas and gardens. We have a good-sized hall, four classrooms, a small library area and our own school kitchen providing hot meals at lunch time. The school is next to a playing field which we use for PE and after school clubs.

The school caters for children from Nursery (age 3) through to Year 6. We currently operate a four-class structure: Early Years (Nursery and Reception), Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and 2), Lower Key Stage 2 (Year 3 and 4) and Upper Key Stage 2 (Year 5 and 6). At times, we move to a three-class structure to best meet the needs of our pupils. Each class is led by a class teacher and supported by Teaching Assistants.

We are:

  • a small, rural village school with high standards

  • friendly and supportive, with a strong community and family feel

  • an inclusive school with high ambitions for every child.

You will:

  • view each child as an individual, believing that all children can grow and succeed, aligning with our mission

  • have high expectations of pupils’ achievement and behaviour

  • be positive, creative and passionate in your approach to teaching and learning

  • be a collaborative and supportive team member.

Our school benefits from a supportive Governing Body, an active Parents Association (Friends), and excellent outdoor learning opportunities, including access to extensive grounds and a neighbouring public cricket field.

Candidates should be in sympathy with the Christian ethos of the school.

Roll: 66 pupils (4–11 years) plus 9 Nursery pupils (total 75).
