Job Description

  • Camp accommodation + Flights available from Calgary or Edmonton *

Clean Harbors in Fort McMurray, AB is seeking a Class 3 Operator/Hazardous Waste Specialist (known internally as an Insite Chemist) to join their safety conscious team on-site at Suncor Fort Hills. The successful candidate will be responsible for working both indoors and outdoors to provide hazardous waste services at our customer facilities. Responsibilities include the loading, packaging and segregation of materials and waste products, completion of health and safety field level documents, bin tracking and waste profiling. The Insite Chemist will be managing small bin services around site with a truck mounted forklift.

Schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off schedule. 12-hour workdays.

  • Load and transport materials onsite to the waste transfer facility using a flat deck truck (class 3 required) and truck mounted forklift
  • Segregate and pack material in accordance with provincial and federal legislation.
  • Prepare required shipping paperwork and label drums in accordance with TDG regulations.
  • Maintain excellent customer relations.
  • Ensure drum count is correct and that drum conditions are shippable in accordance with Clean Harbors policies and procedures and TDG regulations.
  • Understand customer specific disposal requirements.
  • Report work-related near misses and incidents to supervision in a timely manner.
  • Work with Insite Supervisor on other duties as required.
  • 1-3 years’ experience with Hazardous Waste.
  • Class 3 license required with clean driving record.
  • Manual transmission operating experience.
  • Equipment experience with forklift and skid steer preferred
  • Comfortable working a 7 on and 7 off schedule, 12 hours day inside and outside.
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of daily responsibilities
  • Intermediate computer proficiency required. Ability to navigate Microsoft Office and business software applications.
