Job Description

Title: Clamp Truck Driver - 2nd Shift

Reports to: Department Supervisor or Superintendent

The Clamp Truck Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient movement, stacking, and storage of large, heavy rolls of paper, bundles of corrugated sheets, and finished goods within the manufacturing facility and warehouse. This role is critical to maintaining smooth production flow and inventory accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Safely and proficiently operate a clamp forklift to move, stack, and retrieve various forms of paper and corrugated products.
  • Load and unload inbound paper rolls from trailers; stage rolls for machines based on production schedules.
  • Move finished corrugated bundles and stacks from production areas to the warehouse. Ensure products are stored in designated locations, adhering to FIFO inventory principles.
  • Conduct pre-shift inspections of the clamp truck (e.g., fluid levels, tire pressure, clamp mechanism, horn, lights) and complete inspection checklists. Report any mechanical issues immediately to supervision or maintenance.
  • Handle materials with extreme care to prevent product damage (e.g., crushed cores, tear damage, carton damage).
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the roll storage area, warehouse, and shipping docks.
  • Complete necessary paperwork, logs, or use an RF scanner/WMS (Warehouse Management System) to accurately track material movements and inventory.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, production operators, and shipping personnel to coordinate material needs and movements.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of proven experience operating a clamp forklift in a high-volume manufacturing or warehouse setting, preferably within the paper, packaging, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Current and valid powered industrial truck (PIT) certification and/or the ability to pass an in-house certification program specific to clamp truck operation.
  • Thorough understanding of industrial safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out, pedestrian safety, and safe operation near heavy machinery.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods while operating the lift. Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry objects up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills to interpret production schedules, complete documentation, and verify inventory counts.
  • Must be able to work in a loud, dusty, and non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in the corrugated box, paper mill, or printing industry is highly desirable.
  • Experience using an RF scanner and/or a Warehouse Management System (WMS) for inventory transactions.
  • Knowledge of proper freight loading and securement techniques.

Working Conditions & Schedule

  • Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to noise, dust, and forklift traffic. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required (e.g., safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots).

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and understand instructions on factory masters.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to read a tape measure quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as percentages, measurement, volume, and rate.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to use common sense to understand and follow instructions provided in written, oral, or visual formats.
  • Ability to solve problems involving several concrete variables in routine situations.
