Workers’ Compensation Claims Examiner

Jurisdictions: CT, MA, RI, NH, VT
Remote

We are seeking an experienced Workers’ Compensation Claims Examiner to manage a caseload of lost-time and litigated workers’ compensation claims across Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The ideal candidate will have strong investigation, compensability, litigation management, and settlement experience while delivering timely, customer-focused claim resolution.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of indemnity and litigated workers’ compensation claims from inception through closure.
  • Conduct coverage and compensability investigations.
  • Evaluate medical treatment, disability status, return-to-work opportunities, and claim exposure.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate reserves throughout the life of the claim.
  • Coordinate with employers, injured workers, attorneys, medical providers, and vocational professionals.
  • Direct and manage defense counsel on litigated matters.
  • Negotiate settlements and prepare settlement documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with all state-specific workers’ compensation statutes and filing requirements.
  • Maintain detailed claim documentation and timely diary management.
  • Participate in claim reviews and provide recommendations on complex claim strategy.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of Workers’ Compensation claims handling experience.
  • Experience handling indemnity and litigated claims.
  • Prior exposure to one or more of the following jurisdictions preferred: CT, MA, RI, NE, and VT.
  • Strong knowledge of workers’ compensation laws, regulations, and claims practices.
  • Experience establishing reserves and evaluating settlement opportunities.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to independently manage a high-volume caseload in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Experience

  • Multi-state workers’ compensation experience.
  • Self-insured, TPA, carrier, or public entity claims background.
  • Experience handling complex, catastrophic, or attorney-represented claims.
  • Professional designations such as AIC, CPCU, WCCA, or similar are a plus.
