About Everest

Everest is a global leader in risk management, rooted in a rich, 50+ year heritage of enabling businesses to survive and thrive, and economies to function and flourish. We are underwriters of risk, growth, progress and opportunity. We are a global team focused on disciplined capital allocation and long-term value creation for all stakeholders, who care deeply about our impact on communities and the wider world.

The opportunity

Everest is looking for a Claims Adjuster to join our growing First Party Claims team in London.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build or continue developing their career within Property and Energy claims. Whether you are developing your career following an early careers or graduate programme, or are already an established Claims Adjuster looking to broaden your technical exposure, we’re interested in hearing from you.

Reporting to the Head of First Party Claims, you’ll work alongside experienced claims professionals handling a varied portfolio of first-party claims across our global insurance business.

Everest underwrites a broad range of first-party business, giving you the opportunity to develop your technical expertise across Property, Energy (including Power, Renewables and Oil & Gas), Construction, Real Estate and A&H.

As your experience develops, you’ll have the opportunity to take greater ownership of more complex and higher-value losses, work closely with brokers, insureds and external experts, and build strong relationships with our Underwriting and Actuarial teams.

What you’ll be doing

Your responsibilities will reflect your experience and develop as you grow within the role. They will include:

  • Claims management: Handle a portfolio of first-party Property and/or Energy claims, investigating and evaluating losses and progressing claims towards effective resolution.
  • Technical development: Build your expertise across areas including physical damage, business interruption, coverage, subrogation, recoveries and cost exposures.
  • Coverage: Review and analyse policy wordings and coverage issues and support the preparation of coverage correspondence.
  • Reserving: Establish and maintain timely and accurate case reserves in line with company policy.
  • External experts: Work with and manage loss adjusters, lawyers, Third-Party Administrators (TPAs) and other specialist providers.
  • Reporting: Prepare clear claim summaries and contribute to reporting on larger or more complex losses.
  • Team collaboration: Work closely with colleagues, sharing technical knowledge, participating in peer reviews and contributing to a supportive and collaborative team environment.
  • Business partnership: Partner with Underwriting and other teams, providing insight on claims trends, policy interpretation and emerging issues.
  • External relationships: Build positive relationships with insureds, brokers, reinsurers and other market participants.
  • Claims reviews: Participate in claims reviews, stewardship meetings, claims audits and other activities supporting effective portfolio management.

For someone joining with more established experience, there will be scope to take greater ownership of complex and higher-value losses, technical coverage matters, external experts and key stakeholder relationships.

What we’re looking for

We’re interested in hearing from people at different stages of their claims career.

You could be a good fit if you bring:

  • Relevant experience within Property, Energy or another first-party claims environment.
  • A good understanding of the claims lifecycle, including investigation, coverage assessment and reserving.
  • An interest in developing deeper technical expertise across Property and Energy claims.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and investigative skills.
  • The ability to communicate confidently and build effective relationships with colleagues, brokers, insureds and external experts.
  • Good written communication skills and the ability to produce clear and concise claims documentation.
  • The confidence to ask questions, exercise judgement and take increasing ownership of claims.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to learn from and share knowledge with others.
  • Strong organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A commercial mindset and an interest in understanding how Claims partners with Underwriting and the wider business.

Experience with London Market claims systems such as ECF and IMR, or claims platforms such as ClaimCenter, would be advantageous but is not essential.

Progress towards ACII, a legal qualification or another relevant professional qualification would also be welcomed, although practical claims experience, technical capability and a clear appetite to continue developing are equally important.

Why Everest?

This role offers the opportunity to develop within a genuinely broad first-party portfolio rather than being restricted to one narrow class of business.

You’ll gain exposure to different territories, types of losses and specialist classes while working alongside an experienced Claims team.

For someone developing their claims career, there is plenty of opportunity to build technical expertise and take on increasing responsibility. For a more established adjuster, there is scope to handle greater complexity and broaden your exposure across Property and Energy.

Above all, we’re looking for someone who is curious, commercially minded, collaborative and keen to continue building their career in Property and Energy claims.

What if I don’t meet every requirement? At Everest we are dedicated to building an inclusive and authentic workplace. So, if you are excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every element in the job description, we still encourage you to apply. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles. Please let us know if you need any accommodations throughout the application or interview process.
