GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is seeking a Civil/Water Resources Engineer Intern to support our Hydrology/Hydraulics and Climate Change and Dam & Levee Safety Engineering Teams. GZA’s Water Services team delivers projects that benefit society, focusing on water resources infrastructure, climate change adaptation and resiliency, natural resource restoration, and natural hazard mitigation. As a Civil/Water Resources Engineer Intern, you will assist with the technical execution of projects as part of a collaborative team of project managers and principals working together across GZA’s 30+ offices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform surface water hydrologic and open channel, 1- and 2-dimensional hydraulic / hydrodynamic analyses using a variety of computer models.
  • Develop designs, prepare feasibility and planning studies, and develop recommendations to solve engineering problems.
  • Prepare engineering inspection, feasibility, and design reports.
  • Prepare construction and bid documents including drawings, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
  • Perform field tasks, site reconnaissance and sub-surface explorations, soil & water sampling, inspections, and construction observation.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master of Science degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering
  • Strong academic training in civil engineering, surface water hydrology, open channel hydraulics, watershed management, and associated physical/earth sciences related to civil engineering
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a professional attitude
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear and concise letters, memoranda, technical reports, proposals, and figures.
  • Strong computer skills including a solid foundation in MS Office applications.
  • Academic training, previous work experience, or the ability to learn various hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, StormCAD, SWMM, SWAN, etc.). AutoCAD/Civil 3D and ArcGIS familiarity are considered advantageous for this position.
  • Basic programming/coding skills and familiarity with AI tools desirable (e.g., VBA, Python, R, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Ability to travel to local and regional sites.
  • EIT certification is a plus.
  • Construction experience is a plus.

The hourly rate for this position may range between $22.00 and $28.00. The total compensation will depend on many factors, including candidate experience, education, professional licensure, and other qualification.
