Mesa Associates, Inc. is currently seeking an intern to assist with Civil/Structural Engineering & Design for its Knoxville or Chattanooga, TN offices. The ideal candidate will be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior Level Student at an Accredited University and working towards a BS in Civil or Structural Engineering. Prior experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation software is a plus, but not required. The individual will be working with experienced engineers and/or designers in creating civil and structural drawing deliverables for power delivery substation projects. In this role, you will help perform structural analysis and design of substation steel and concrete elements (transformer and equipment foundations, control building foundations, oil containment, cable trenches, support structures, steel framing, and switch rack design), prepare calculations and design deliverables, and assist in developing construction drawings and specifications. You will apply relevant codes and standards (ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, NESC/IEEE as applicable), use industry software (e.g., STAAD.Pro, RISA 3D, SAP2000, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit), and gain experience by helping coordinate with internal project managers, electrical engineers, contractors, and utility clients to support timely, constructible designs.

Education/Experience:

  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior currently enrolled in an ABET accredited college/university pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Candidates pursuing their master’s in civil/structural engineering
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • 0-2 years. Previous internship is preferred, but not required
