The Opportunity

ElectraNet is seeking a Civil Engineer to provide specialist technical expertise across the design, construction and commissioning of critical transmission network infrastructure. Working within the Substation Engineering team, you will play a key role in ensuring civil engineering solutions meet operational, regulatory, safety and performance requirements while supporting the delivery of strategic business objectives and major capital projects.

As a subject matter expert, you will contribute across the full asset lifecycle, from concept development and detailed design through to construction, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex and challenging projects while collaborating closely with internal stakeholders, external consultants, contractors and customers to deliver innovative, commercially focused engineering outcomes.

Based in Adelaide, this full-time role will also cover the following key responsibilities:

  • Deliver civil and structural engineering expertise for substation and associated infrastructure projects
  • Support the delivery of strategic initiatives, major projects and continuous improvement programs
  • Develop and review concept, functional and detailed civil designs
  • Prepare and review engineering scopes, design briefs, technical specifications and technical investigations
  • Contribute to tender evaluations, cost estimates and contract documentation
  • Provide technical support across the full asset lifecycle, including design, construction, operation and maintenance
  • Review and approve civil design documentation and investigation reports
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulatory obligations and ElectraNet requirements
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of engineering standards and specifications
  • Promote and embed Safety in design principles across projects and operations
  • Provide technical advice during construction, commissioning and operational phases
  • Oversee the construction of civil infrastructure elements and ensure compliance with design requirements
  • Support site acceptance testing and quality assurance activities
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve project objectives
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement through the adoption of industry best practice and emerging technologies

About You

You are a degree-qualified Civil Engineer with strong technical expertise in civil infrastructure design and construction, ideally within high-voltage substations, transmission networks or similarly complex infrastructure environments. You combine sound engineering judgment with commercial awareness and enjoy solving complex technical challenges while building effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams. A proactive communicator, you are committed to delivering safe, high-quality outcomes and continuously improving engineering practices and asset performance.

To be successful, you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, including structural and foundation design, geotechnical investigations, surveying, hydrology and construction management
  • Experience designing civil infrastructure such as earthworks, platform development, drainage systems, access roads, trenches, pits, bunds and retaining structures
  • Familiarity with the layout, operation and function of high-voltage substations and associated infrastructure
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing civil design and construction specifications
  • Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and industry regulatory requirements
  • Strong analytical, investigation and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical information
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality outcomes within budget and time constraints
  • Experience collaborating with contractors, consultants and multi-disciplinary project teams
  • A commitment to safety, innovation and continuous improvement
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or equivalent civil design software (desirable)
  • Experience in the design, installation, commissioning, operation or maintenance of substation civil infrastructure (desirable)
  • Chartered Engineer status and White Care training (desirable)
