The position of Civilian Specialist is critical for the Sheriff's Office as a support function in the Detention Bureau and other divisions and may be assigned to other areas of the organization based on operational needs. This position provides support in the areas of lobby, booking desk, control centers, alarm monitoring, property room, inmate programs, classifications, court coordinator, and records. The position provides assistance to citizens and responds to emergency and routine calls for service in accordance with organizational policies and regulations under the general supervision of a superior officer. Civilian Specialists assist in providing an environment that is professional and humane for all inmates as charged to the Sheriff by Kansas State Statute. We are always looking for great people and have multiple openings for this job. Qualified applicants will remain as an active candidate for a period of up to 90 days after the close date.

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. An Associate's degree in the field of criminal justice, social services or related field is preferred. Six (6) months of general work experience is required with 1-2 years of law enforcement related experience preferred. Applicants must possess attention to detail, basic mathematical skills, human relations/interpersonal skills, ability to maintain confidentiality, and time management skills to include the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines. Physical abilities include mobility, agility, strength, dexterity, balance, coordination, and/or endurance are also required.
Applicants will be required to submit to a polygraph, medical, physical, psychological interview, and thorough background investigation.
