Summary

The Montgomery County Engineer's Office (MCEO), located in Dayton, Ohio, is seeking a Civil Engineer 3 to serve as a senior roadway engineer within our design team. This position independently leads the design, development, and review of complex roadway capital improvement projects and serves as a roadway technical resource for the office. The successful candidate will manage in-house and consultant design efforts, coordinate with project stakeholders, support construction activities, and provide technical guidance to engineering staff.

Examples of duties

  • Independently prepare and review roadway construction plans, engineering calculations, specifications, estimates, technical studies, and other design documents
  • Serve as a roadway design technical resource and provide quality review of construction plans and studies for compliance with applicable standards and project requirements
  • Manage complex in-house and consultant roadway design projects, including preparation of scopes, schedules, cost estimates, and project coordination requirements
  • Administer and coordinate consultant engineering service contracts and review consultant deliverables
  • Coordinate with utility companies, consultants, contractors, property owners, citizens, and local, state, and federal agencies throughout project development
  • Lead project meetings and resolve roadway design, utility coordination, public involvement, and construction-related issues
  • Assist construction personnel with design questions, change orders, pay estimate reviews, and other construction activities as needed
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and design review support to junior engineering staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) curriculum
  • Six (6) or more years of progressively responsible engineering-related experience, with a strong emphasis on roadway design and capital improvement projects
  • Registered Professional Engineer required
  • Demonstrated experience independently managing roadway design projects and coordinating consultant engineering services
  • Experience with the development and review of roadway construction plans, specifications, estimates, engineering calculations, and technical studies
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local roadway design requirements; familiarity with ODOT design and construction standards preferred
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred
  • Strong project management, technical review, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to mentor and provide technical direction to engineering staff
  • Strong communication skills and experience working with the public, peers, consultants, contractors, and government agencies
  • Valid State of Ohio Driver's License or ability to obtain within 6 months
