Job Description

Settled by German families who gave the area its name and incorporated in 1960, Live Oak has grown from its farming and ranching roots into a vibrant community of more than 16,400 residents. The City sits at the high-growth intersection of Interstate 35 and Loop 1604, about 17 miles northeast of downtown San Antonio. Residents love its strong sense of community, convenient location, and quality parks, including Live Oak Park with its lake, walking trails, and community pool.

Live Oak is a home-rule city under the council-manager form of government. The Mayor and five Council members are elected at large to two-year terms, and the Council appoints the City Manager, who appoints the Police Chief. The City has approximately 122 employees with a strong emphasis on public safety, sound financial stewardship, and well-managed growth.

The Live Oak Police Department, in partnership with the community, works to prevent crime, preserve the peace, and enforce the laws with exemplary service. Its vision is setting the highest professional standard and model of policing in Texas. The department's 52 employees and a budget of $5,687,630 cover Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Emergency Communications, SWAT, Crime Victims Assistance, Community Programs, Administration and Records, and Animal Control.

Reporting to the City Manager, the Police Chief provides strategic direction for all law enforcement operations. Live Oak is seeking a community-oriented law enforcement executive who sets the bar for ethics and integrity, is highly visible and approachable, brings a track record of stability and consistency, and inspires a team to achieve a shared vision.

The full salary range for this position is $137,146 – $208,685 with an anticipated hiring range of $137,146 - $189,057 DOQ.
