Job Description
Citi is looking for a Fintech Senior Relationship Manager to join its Digital, Technology & Communications Mid-Corporates team, where you will own and grow a portfolio of U.S.-headquartered, venture-backed software companies. In this senior individual contributor role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to high-growth FinTech and Payment Intermediary clients, connecting them to the full breadth of Citi's global capabilities — from Treasury & Trade Solutions and Foreign Exchange to Investment Banking and Equity Capital Markets. Your success will be measured by the quality of relationships you build, the new business you originate, and the differentiated insight you deliver to both clients and senior leadership.
Responsibilities
- Drive new client acquisition across the FinTech sector, with a primary focus on venture-backed companies at Series A stage and beyond, building a high-quality, scalable book of business.
- Develop deep expertise in the payment intermediaries (PI), merchant acquirers, payment processors, money movement platforms, and embedded finance providers.
- Be able to navigate the complexity of client's flow of funds and recommend most appropriate Citi products and services while adhering to Citi’s risk appetite.
- Be able to present to Citi's compliance and risk committee to onboard a PI entity. Interpret legal opinions as a first line of defense and review the risks of the PI's counterparties.
- Develop and execute outbound business development strategies — including direct client outreach, venture capital and private equity partnership development, and referral channel cultivation — to originate and grow new client relationships.
- Represent Citi at industry conferences, founder events, and venture community forums, positioning the bank as the financial partner of choice for high-growth technology companies.
- Advise clients proactively by sharing relevant market intelligence, sector trends, and tailored financial solutions that anticipate their evolving needs and growth ambitions.
- Collaborate with product specialists across Treasury & Trade Solutions, Foreign Exchange, Credit Underwriting, Investment Banking, and Equity Capital Markets to structure and deliver innovative, customized solutions for each client.
- Identify and develop cross-sell opportunities across the client portfolio, deepening relationships and expanding Citi's share of wallet in a disciplined and client-centric way.
- Oversee the credit relationship for each client — coordinating the end-to-end credit process, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and applying sound risk judgment in all business decisions.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 10+ years of experience in commercial banking (with at least 5+ years in the fintech), relationship management, or a closely related financial services discipline, with a demonstrable focus on technology or growth-stage companies.
- Ideal candidate must possess strong knowledge of fintech and payments infrastructure, including the complexities of intermediary payment models.
- Must be able to effectively evaluate client business models involving multiple counterparties, understand how funds move through payment ecosystems, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop risk appropriate banking solutions.
- Credit skills, including the ability to structure complex and multi-faceted credit transactions and guide deals through the full approval process.
- Deep knowledge of banking and investment products, with a track record of delivering sound financial advice and solutions to commercial clients.
- FINRA Series 79, 63, and SIE licenses, or the commitment and eligibility to obtain them upon joining.
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders to deliver a seamless, high-quality client experience under time pressure.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage at senior levels both internally and externally.
- Comfort with data-driven decision-making and the ability to rapidly reprioritize based on new information or shifting client needs.
Beneficial Skills & Qualifications
- Established network within the venture capital, private equity, or startup ecosystem, with existing relationships that can accelerate new business origination.
- Familiarity with early warning detection frameworks and the ability to identify and manage emerging credit or portfolio risks proactively.
- Master’s degree in business, finance, or a related field.
- Experience delivering industry insights and thought leadership to both external clients and internal senior leadership audiences.
