Connecting banks, businesses, and individuals, Interac enables millions to send, receive, and manage money safely and effortlessly every day — across both digital and physical environments.

As the backbone of Canada’s financial ecosystem, Interac facilitates over 20 million transactions daily, supported by trusted partnerships with government and financial institutions. Consistently ranked as Canada’s most reputable financial technology brand, Interac is deeply embedded in the daily lives of Canadians.

Who You Will Work With:

The vacant CIAM, Principal role will report to the Product Enablement Services, Lead. This role provides senior technical leadership and architectural direction for Interac’s Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) platform. The role exists to ensure CIAM is secure, scalable, resilient, and consistently implemented across Interac’s products, partners, and financial institutions. As a principal level role, this position drives platform standards, guides complex technical decisions, and influences cross organizational outcomes related to identity, access, and trust.

What You Will Do:

  • Own and evolve the technical vision and architecture for Interac’s CIAM platform, ensuring alignment with enterprise security standards, regulatory requirements, and longterm platform strategy.

  • Define, govern, and continuously refine CIAM integration patterns, authentication and authorization models (e.g., SSO, MFA, federation, rolebased access), and identity lifecycle processes.

  • Act as the senior technical authority for CIAM onboarding and integrations, guiding product teams on design decisions, feasibility, sequencing, and risk tradeoffs.

  • Make principallevel operational and technical decisions within the CIAM domain, particularly where standards require interpretation or new approaches are needed.

  • Partner closely with Security, Architecture, Privacy, Legal, and Operations teams to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate identityrelated risks.

  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, documentation, and reusable frameworks that improve consistency, reduce technical debt, and accelerate adoption.

  • Collaborate with CIAM SaaS vendors and external partners to manage constraints, influence roadmaps, and ensure delivery meets Interac’s requirements.

  • Provide senior technical leadership and mentorship across squads, influencing engineering direction and decisionmaking without direct line authority.

What You Bring:

Technical Expertise

  • Deep expertise in Customer Identity & Access Management (CIAM), including authentication, authorization, federation, and identity lifecycle management.

  • Advanced knowledge of identity and security protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML, JWT, MFA, and passkeys.

  • Proven experience designing and governing secure, scalable identity architectures for multitenant, B2B and B2C environments.

  • Strong experience integrating CIAM platforms with applications, APIs, and external partners, including complex role and permission models.

  • Solid understanding of cloudbased and SaaS architectures and APIdriven platforms.

  • Strong security mindset with experience in risk assessment, threat mitigation, and audit readiness related to identity systems.

  • Experience managing and reducing technical debt in shared, enterprise platforms.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with thirdparty vendors and SaaS providers.

Analytical & ProblemSolving Skills

  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex, multivariable technical problems involving security, compliance, scalability, and delivery constraints.

  • Strong judgement in balancing risk, cost, delivery timelines, and longterm platform sustainability.

  • Ability to translate regulatory, privacy, and security requirements into practical, implementable technical solutions.

Leadership & Interpersonal Skills

  • Senior technical leadership capability, with a track record of influencing decisions across teams and disciplines.

  • Strong communication skills, able to articulate complex identity and security concepts to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to collaborate across Product, Security, Architecture, Operations, Legal, and Compliance.

  • Confidence operating in ambiguity and making decisions where policies or precedents may not yet exist.

  • Shape

Education & Certifications

  • Masters/Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • No professional certifications are required at point of hire; relevant IAM, security, or cloud certifications are considered assets.
