Shape the conversation on China’s equity markets and economy. Join a high‑impact strategy team that blends rigorous research, market awareness, and client engagement to deliver actionable insights. You will partner across trading, sales, and research to inform investment decisions and drive thought leadership for global and regional clients.

As a China Equity Strategist – Executive Director in our Hong Kong office, you lead research and strategy on China macroeconomics, policy, and equity market/sectors implications. You deliver timely publications and client dialogues, develop investment frameworks, and collaborate with partners across the firm to translate insights into actionable ideas. You mentor junior talent, uphold rigorous controls and standards, and represent the franchise with clients and media where appropriate.

Job responsibilities

  • Lead the research agenda on China macro and equity strategy; produce high‑quality notes, outlooks, and thematic pieces.
  • Build and maintain investment frameworks, indicators, and models to analyze growth, policy, market dynamics and evolving themes; translate findings into high conviction sector and stock ideas.
  • Engage clients through meetings, calls, and events; present views clearly and tailor content to investor needs across regions and time zones.
  • Partner with sales and trading to align views with market color and identify actionable opportunities and risks.
  • Coordinate cross‑asset and cross‑country projects; contribute to house views and collaborate with regional strategy and economics teams.
  • Guide scenario and risk analysis around key policy and geopolitical developments; update views proactively as data and policy evolve.
  • Maintain rigorous research governance, documentation, and compliance with applicable rules and Firm policies.
  • Develop and mentor junior team members; set standards for analysis, writing quality, and professional conduct.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • 10 years relevant experience in China macro/strategy research, policy analysis, or closely related market strategy roles.
  • Advanced degree in economics, finance, public policy, or a quantitative discipline; or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in China macro, policy, and financial market linkages, with a track record of timely, actionable research.
  • Own JPMorgan thought leadership on China equities for global audiences, connecting structural trends with sector/thematic developments.
  • Proven client engagement experience, including leading meetings and delivering high‑impact presentations.
  • Experience engaging with media and public forums under firm policies and approvals; capable of clear, concise messaging for external audiences.
  • Excellent communication skills; articulate and present complex ideas clearly in both Mandarin and English, including for external audiences.
  • Fluent Mandarin and English, including the ability to review Chinese‑language policy documents and official publications.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Publication record demonstrating thought leadership on China themes.
  • Familiarity with cross‑asset strategy and integration of macro views into trade ideas.
  • Strong analytical toolkit, including time‑series analysis and model‑building; proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, or equivalent).
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior analysts, setting research standards, and managing workflows.
  • Cantonese proficiency is an advantage for Hong Kong‑based client engagement.
  • Proficiency with data visualization and dashboarding tools; experience with high‑frequency data sources.
