Accountabilities:

Programming

  • Develop, implement and supervise community outreach programs for children and families that have been supported by and approved by the Corps Officers.
  • Where applicable, link community members to the church family and church programs, and vice versa.
  • Encourage families to participate in programs and services offered by Kitchener Community Church and Family Care Centre.
  • Assist in the coordination and organization of seasonal or special programs/events including but not limited to: Christmas Toy Distribution, Brave, Camps, Community Dinners, Share the Warmth.
  • Participate in the annual ministry planning process.
  • Work closely with the Corps Officers to develop strategies for reaching out to the broader community and integrating mission work with the church's overall objectives.
  • Serve as a liaison between the church, volunteers, and the community, embodying the church's mission and values in all interactions.
  • Develop trusting, holistic relationships within and outside the church.
  • Provide spiritual and social support, assistance, and encouragement to new participants and model hospitality and encourage the church community in this as well.
  • Recommend and assist in the development and revision of program policies.
  • Actively promote the Kitcher Community Church and Family Care Centre programs within the community
  • Network with community agencies, and other churches to aid in outreach potential.

Support

  • Build relationships with Kitchener Community Church and Family Care Centre Families, with the leaders of our local ministries and community partners.
  • Provide support in congregational ministry as needed which includes being an active member of The Salvation Army Kitchener Community Church and Family Care Centre.
  • Provide ongoing support to families as needed.
  • Provide spiritual guidance when appropriate and use opportunities to pray with families.

Administration

  • Organize and manage logistics for events, including scheduling, resource allocation, and communication.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of outreach initiatives, providing feedback and recommendations for future improvements.
  • Provide data analysis for programs, record statistics, write and submit reports and letters.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client and volunteer records, using Salvation Army approved software (Link2feed).
  • Propose new funding opportunities and initiatives and provide ongoing updates to the leadership team.
  • Prepare funding proposals to support long term sustainability of outreach programs.
  • Maintain operational and statistical reports as required in a timely, accurate, and organized manner.
  • Develop and prepare promotional materials and update social media sites.

Volunteers

  • Assist with the recruitment, training and facilitating of church members and volunteers to actively engage in community ministries.
  • Serve as a liaison between the church, volunteers, and the community, embodying the church's mission and values in all interactions.
  • Ensure that all volunteers maintain any mandatory training or certification, identify any training needs and reports to the Corps Officer.

Health and Safety

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedure
  • Use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer
  • Report workplace hazards, dangers, injuries or illness, work in a manner as required by the employer, and report workplace injuries or illness.
  • Report any safety hazards, maintenance problems, equipment, or supply needs to the Corps Officer and/or health and safety representative.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Internal:

  • Regularly work with the Corps Officers, Family Care Centre Director, other staff, volunteers and the mission board.
  • Participate as an active member of the mission board.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings, as well as supervision meetings with the Corps Officer.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with the Kitchener Community Church and Family Care Centre team.

External:

  • Community (donors, participants, community agencies and clients.)
  • Represent The Salvation Army at agency and community meetings as directed.

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY

  • This position reports directly to the Corps Officer or designate.
  • This role does not have any direct reports but may supervise up to 10 volunteers throughout the year in various programs within established guidelines.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • This position is responsible for program equipment and driving a corps vehicle.
  • This position will be required to manage and work within a budget under the supervision of the Corps Officer, submitting all receipts in accordance with TSA policies and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a permanent full-time position based on 35 hours per week.
  • This job requires the ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs. and reach, bend, stoop frequently and or work in a standing position for long periods of time.
  • Job duties will be performed in the Corps building for the majority of the time, with work being done in public spaces including community centers, and parks etc.
  • Job duties may include handling garbage, cleaning up after events etc.
  • The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions, dealing with angry/upset children and families, crisis situations and mental health issues.
  • Regular attendance at Kitchener Community Church for Sunday worship will greatly contribute to the success of the future candidate in this role, as it will be crucial for supporting the integration of programming.
  • Travel is associated with this position {up to 5%} and required to use a Salvation Army program vehicle when available.

Normal hours of work: The supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule as per operational requirements, including weekday evenings and a ½-hour unpaid meal break. The schedule will also the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required for events and activities.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of one academic year in Biblical Studies/Theology, Bible College/Youth Ministry education.
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college diploma program of 2 or 3 academic years, preferably in a human services field, i.e., Social Services Worker would be an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to provide a valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certification, Mental Health First Aid, Crisis Prevention Institute Certification and Safe Food Handlers Certification or willingness to obtain.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience in outreach, missions, community programming in a church setting, volunteer coordination, or a related field.
  • Requires extensive knowledge and proficiency with MS Office programs, data input into a database and general office equipment.
  • Have a working knowledge of programs and services offered at/by Kitchener Community Church and Family Care Centre and familiarity with using Link2Feed would be a definite asset.
  • Superior skills in organizing diverse ministry programs.
  • A passion for community service and a desire to see lives transformed.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with church members, staff, and volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle and insurance is required, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

  • Proficient in working in a computerized environment; must demonstrate strong skills using Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector check screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $44,535.40 to $55,673.80 with a maximum of $66,812.20.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
