Job Description

Position: Childcare Paraeducator Substitute
Work Schedule: Varies (as needed); shifts are scheduled within the hours of Monday�Friday; 6:30�9:30 a.m. and/or 2:00�6:00 p.m.
Start Date: Fall 2026
Pay: $20.85 per hour
Benefits: This position is not eligible for benefits.

The Childcare Paraeducator Substitute supports before and after-school programming for students in grades K�5. Working as part of a collaborative team, substitutes provide a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment by supervising children, leading activities, and helping meet the physical, social, emotional, and developmental needs of participants.

Required Qualifications:

  • 16 years of age or older
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work effectively with children, families, and staff in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education, child development, or a related field
  • Experience working with school-age children in a childcare, recreation, or educational setting

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with implementing engaging, age-appropriate activities for school-age children
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive environment where all students feel welcome and supported
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with school personnel, the Site Manager, staff, parents/guardians, students, and the public
  • Set up and organize school-age care program spaces, including moving activity cabinets and preparing materials for daily programming
  • Supervise and actively participate in arts and crafts, games, STEM activities, gym and outdoor play, enrichment opportunities, and field trips
  • Support children with behavior guidance using positive reinforcement and district-approved practices
  • Maintain accurate program records, including documenting and reinforcing behavior support plans as directed
  • Prepare and serve snacks in accordance with health and safety guidelines
  • Perform light housekeeping duties, including cleaning tables, sweeping, mopping small areas, and maintaining an organized program space
  • Follow all District, DCYF, and School-Age Care policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

May be regularly required to walk throughout a building and may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance or push up to 90 pounds, and must be able to restrain students with proper training and assistance when needed, and may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
