Hazelwood Early Childhood Centre is looking for a dedicated and experienced Childcare Cook to join our warm and supportive team.

This part-time role is perfect for someone who is passionate about preparing nutritious, delicious meals for young children and understands the importance of safe food handling, dietary requirements, and allergy management.

You’ll play an important role in supporting children’s wellbeing by creating healthy meals in a nurturing early learning environment.

About Hazelwood ECC

Hazelwood ECC is part of Connect Children and Families and specialises exclusively in education and care for children aged 6 weeks to 3 years, offering a research-informed, relationship-based early learning program.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Planning and preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children
  • Managing dietary requirements, allergies, and food preferences safely
  • Working closely with educators and families to support children’s individual needs
  • Maintaining accurate allergy and dietary records
  • Preventing cross-contamination and ensuring safe food preparation practices
  • Ordering kitchen stock and ensuring food is stored correctly
  • Maintaining cleanliness and compliance with food safety regulations
  • Providing guidance around food allergy management and safe meal practices

What You’ll Need

  • Previous experience in a similar role, ideally in childcare, aged care, or hospitality
  • Food Handling and Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Strong understanding of food safety regulations and allergy management
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and communicate effectively with colleagues, children and families.
  • A genuine passion for cooking healthy meals for children,while ensuring their safety and well-being

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.
