There are two roles open, with one working in the North Boulder Rec Center and the other in the East Boulder Recreation Center. The East Center's position will be weekends only and run August through January. The North Center's position will be ongoing with potential workdays Monday through Saturday.

Under direct supervision, interacts with and supervises children by reading, playing, and conducting creative art activities. Maintains a clean, safe and welcoming environment for all participants and their guardians.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides excellent customer service to the participants attending Child Watch and their guardians.

  • Maintains a safe, welcoming, and clean environment.

  • Greets guardians and children upon check in.

  • Follows all outlined procedures for check in.

  • Ensures proper documentation is completed by guardians.

  • Shares summary of participant’s visit to guardians upon pick up.

  • Communicates clearly with other Child Watch staff and front desk staff.

  • Maintains professional demeanor, including arriving in a timely manner for scheduled shifts, communicating with supervisors as appropriate, and wearing appropriate attire as dictated by the uniform policy.

  • Utilizes appropriate staff scheduling and timekeeping software.

  • Provides general supervision to children.

  • Ensures safety measures and procedures, and equipment maintenance.

  • Ensures participants follow all safety measures, including enforcing safety policy and procedures, taking proper care of equipment and maintenance of equipment/materials.

  • Anticipates unsafe circumstances and acts accordingly to prevent accidents.

  • Ensures safety of self, others, materials, and room environment.

  • Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the city.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to be energetic and sensitive to the needs of the children and guardians.

  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.

  • Ability to ensure all practical safety measures are observed for participants.

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse people in an organizational context.

  • Skills in organization including attention to detail.

  • Skills in effective verbal and written communication.

  • Ability, interest, and desire, and commitment to provide excellent customer service.

  • Ability physically to participate in play activities.

  • Skills in math & problem-solving.

  • Must successfully pass a background check before first day of work and maintain acceptable screening.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to communicate bilingually in English and Spanish (Conversational level Spanish).

  • Knowledge of childcare policies, procedures, safety guidelines, and equipment.

  • One (1) or more years of experience working with children.

  • Previous experience working in a recreation center and drop-in based childcare program.

  • Certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Six (6) months of previous experience working with children.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical and Mental Effort: Primarily low impact physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds; occasional lifting and carrying; frequent walking and standing. Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person. Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the employee to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written documents and materials. Sufficient manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate computer equipment and other office equipment. Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to work in an office setting. Work may include extended periods of time viewing a computer screen and/ or operating a keyboard. Ability to work under stress from public contact and changing priorities and conditions. Upper body strength to lift children and carry supplies and equipment.

  • Work Environment: Works primarily in a clean, comfortable, indoor environment. Works in a setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noises. Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and possibly City holidays, and in multiple facilities.
