About the job:

The Childcare Aide helps the Childcare Recreation Leaders with planned activities of the program. They provide safe and rewarding short-term care for children ages 6 months to 8 years old.

A day in the life:

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide care and oversee the safety of the children in childcare.
  • Plan and lead developmentally appropriate crafts, games, and other recreational activities.
  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation and safety of childcare room, equipment and toys.
  • Set up and breakdown equipment and facilities
  • Correct potential health and safety concerns, or report to supervisor.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents and staff.
  • Maintain required records.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:

This part-time position is for the childcare program at Juniper Swim and Fitness Center.

Start Date: September 1, 2026.

Shifts are either:

Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday mornings 7:45am-12:00pm or

Monday -Thursday afternoons 4:00 or 5:15-7:15pm.

Requirements

What you’ll need for success:

Strong Knowledge of:

Developmental stages, needs, and safety precautions for children ages 6 weeks to eight years.

Skill and Ability to:

  • Ability to consistently project a positive, patient, caring, and energetic demeanor.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties associated with this position, including lifting children.
  • Follow-through on directions; demonstrate a strong work ethic; interact with a variety of patrons/children; communicate effectively with others, establish and maintain positive, respectful and cooperative relationships with all contacts.

What we’re looking for:

Education, Experience and Training:

  1. Must be a minimum of 15 years of age; AND
  2. Currently attending high school or High School Diploma or equivalent; AND
  3. Some previous work, training/certification or volunteer experience related to position
  4. Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above described duties.

License and Certifications:

1. Some positions may require possession of CPR/First Aide certification to be provided through on-the-job training.

Supervision Exercised:

Supervision is not normally a responsibility of this position.

Supervision Received:

Work under the direct supervision of the Enrichment Supervisor.

Working Conditions

  • Depending on the program, duties may be performed either indoors or outdoors, which may include working in extreme weather conditions.
  • Work schedule is varied and may require evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Hours vary depending upon specific childcare and youth program needs.
  • The flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time.
  • Work requires continuous contact with infants, toddlers and children and requires a great deal of energy, patience and flexibility.
  • Frequent exposure to childhood illnesses poses slight health hazard.
  • Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, pushing, pulling and kneeling in order to lift children, equipment and supplies.
  • Job stress may include dealing with parents/patron, crowds, uncooperative participants, difficult individuals, exposure to illness and periods of continuous demand.

Applicants are screened based upon their relevant knowledge, abilities, skills, experience, and training. An offer of employment is contingent on the verification of credentials and other information required by Bend Park & Recreation District policies, including a background check and a driving history review when driving is required for position.
