CHILDWATCH LEAD STAFF

Bring the Fun. Lead the Team. Make a Difference.

Do you love working with kids? Are you energetic, creative, organized, and ready to lead a team? We're looking for a Childwatch Lead Staff member who can bring energy, enthusiasm, and a whole lot of fun to our Childwatch program!

Our Childwatch Lead is more than a supervisor-you'll help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where children can play, learn, make friends, and feel right at home while their families enjoy the YMCA.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As the Childwatch Lead, you'll take the lead in creating an exceptional experience for children, families, and staff while helping bring the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility to life every day.

Lead & Inspire

  • Provide day-to-day leadership for all aspects of the Childwatch program.
  • Recruit, hire, train, coach, develop, evaluate, and schedule Childwatch staff.
  • Be the go-to person for your team and help create a positive, supportive workplace.
  • Step in and cover open Childwatch shifts when needed.
  • Build strong, friendly, and professional relationships with children, parents, caregivers, and YMCA staff.
  • Be a positive ambassador for the YMCA and the Childwatch program.

Make Childwatch FUN!

  • Help design, plan, and implement creative, age-appropriate activities and programming.
  • Keep children engaged with activities that encourage physical, intellectual, social, cultural, and emotional development.
  • Bring energy, creativity, and enthusiasm to the program every day.
  • Help lead special programs such as Parent's Night Out, family movie nights, family events, and other youth & family activities.
  • Help make the Childwatch space a place where kids are excited to come back!

Safety First

  • Maintain constant visual supervision of children.
  • Create a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming environment.
  • Follow all YMCA child care policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Respond appropriately to concerns, accidents, incidents, and unusual situations.
  • Communicate concerns or unresolved issues to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Complete required documentation, including attendance, sign-in/sign-out, health and wellness information, and accident/incident reports.

Support Families & the YMCA

  • Provide exceptional customer service to children and families.
  • Assist with YMCA membership promotion and special events.
  • Participate in family specialty programming, staff meetings, and trainings.
  • Support the YMCA's Strong Communities Campaign and departmental fundraising goals.
  • Help families learn about other YMCA programs and opportunities.

Keep Things Ready for Fun

  • Keep Childwatch rooms, equipment, and supplies clean, safe, organized, and ready for the next adventure.
  • Complete daily and weekly cleaning responsibilities.
  • Make sure equipment and program spaces are properly maintained.
  • Carry out additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Senior Director of Youth & Family.

SCHEDULE

Childwatch operates during:

  • Weekday mornings
  • Weekday evenings
  • Saturday mornings

The Lead position requires flexibility to work and cover all possible Childwatch shifts.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for someone who is:

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and FUN!
  • Creative and able to come up with activities kids will love
  • Organized and dependable
  • Safety-minded and responsible
  • A natural leader and team player
  • Comfortable communicating with both children and adults
  • Patient, positive, and encouraging
  • Passionate about working with children ages 0-12
  • Someone who genuinely enjoys making a difference in the lives of children and families

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; additional education preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with children ages 0-12.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and the ability to build positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate activities.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required within 30 days of hire.
  • Employee Sexual Harassment and Child Abuse Prevention training required prior to the start of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the ability to actively participate in and lead children's activities while providing safe supervision.

You must have the ability to:

  • Stand, walk, bend, move, and participate in activities with children.
  • Maintain adequate vision, hearing, speech, and movement abilities to safely supervise children.
  • Lift up to 30 pounds unassisted.
