Child Protection Specialist - Sponsorship Program

Role Purpose

The role of a Child Protection Specialist is to provide technical expertise and guidance in the development, implementation, and evaluation of child protection policies, programs, and interventions. The main purpose of this role is to ensure strengthening child protection system and develop sustainability plan in program area. She/he work closely with various stakeholders such as government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and communities to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and development of children.

What you will do:

Project Implementation and Quality

  • Lead the design and delivery of high-quality child protection interventions aligned with global and national standards, ensuring relevance to the program’s exit phase and sustainability goals.
  • Provide technical guidance and capacity building to Save the Children staff, partners, and local government stakeholders on child protection, focusing on advocacy and government engagement.
  • Develop and implement a detailed work plan for child protection activities, ensuring timely and effective implementation in alignment with the Sponsorship Program’s exit strategy.
  • Along with Child Protection and Child Rights Governance Technical Adviser, conducting research and analysis to inform child protection policies and interventions.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to child protection in coordination with relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety and well-being of children in the program areas.
  • Support the replication of successful child protection models and approaches by building the technical capacity of local government and community-based organizations.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL)

  • Collaborate with the MEAL team to design and implement child protection-specific monitoring and evaluation frameworks, tools, and processes to track progress and outcomes.
  • Ensure accountability mechanisms, such as child-friendly feedback systems, are in place to collect and respond to community feedback on child protection activities.
  • Regularly analyze data to assess the effectiveness of child protection activities and identify opportunities for improvement or course correction.
  • Document lessons learned, best practices, and success stories from child protection activities to inform future programming and advocacy efforts.
  • Support the preparation and dissemination of high-quality reports and learning materials that highlight the program’s impact and sustainability strategies.

Partnership Management

  • Negotiate and manage partnerships with local NGOs, ensuring clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability mechanisms are in place.

What we need from you:

Education and Experience Background

  • Advanced degree in Social Work, Psychology, Child Protection, Human Rights, Psychology, Law, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in child protection programming, preferably with a focus on advocacy and government engagement.
  • Proven track record of implementing and managing child protection programs in development or humanitarian settings, ideally in rural or underserved communities.
  • Experience in designing and implementing capacity-building programs for government stakeholders and community-based organizations.
  • Familiarity with international child protection standards, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and relevant national frameworks.
  • Experience working on gender equality and disability inclusion related issues.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong technical expertise in child protection, including case management, safeguarding, advocacy, and capacity building.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate multi-stakeholder initiatives, including collaboration with government agencies, NGOs, and communities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design innovative solutions for complex child protection challenges.
  • Proficient in developing and implementing MEAL systems, including data analysis, reporting, and learning dissemination.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for program management, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and local languages.
