Job Description

Child Protection Coordinator

Location – Parramatta, Sydney

Employment type – Temporary, Full Time, 6 months

Salary – Clerk Grade 7/8, 113,574.00 - 125,720.00 (plus employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading)

Your role

Provide expert advice to internal and external stakeholders to ensure Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) meets its legislative responsibilities under the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998, as well as those contained in the NSW Government's Interagency Guidelines for Child Protection Intervention.

What you’ll do

  • Process, review and administer child contact assessments undertaken by the Child Protection Coordination and Support Unit (CPCSU) to assess risks to children visiting child related inmates in correctional centres under the Child Contact Assessment Policy (CCAP).
  • Provide executive support and make recommendations to the Manager CPCSU and Child Protection Panel to minimise risk of harm to children in the care of CSNSW.
  • Exchange information with all prescribed bodies under Chapter 16A of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 regarding the safety, welfare and wellbeing of children and young persons.
  • Provide advice and support regarding child protection issues to all CSNSW staff to reduce related risks and ensure the reporting of serious risk of harm to children.
  • Liaise and negotiate with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including Community Corrections, Custodial Corrections, Government organisations, and community members, to resolve child protection issues.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of CPCSU practices and procedures to ensure continuous improvement in CPCSU’s efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Implement business as usual activities in line with legislative and policy requirements for the effective operation of the unit and ensure that all information is accurate, stored correctly and accessible only by authorised personnel.

What we’re looking for

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, human services, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience in child protection or a similar field.
  • High level report writing competency and a demonstrated ability to maintain exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work with highly emotive, sensitive and sometimes distressing content
