ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Child Health Nurse/Registered Nurse plays a vital role in supporting the health and wellbeing of children within the community. Working part-time in a charity and voluntary sector, this position focuses on providing high-quality nursing care, health education and support to families.
The successful candidate will contribute to the organisation's mission of improving child health outcomes and promoting healthy lifestyles among children and their families.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Work in partnership and collaboration with families and other health professionals to ensure optimal health outcomes.
- Support families in parenting young children using responsive care partnership and family strengths approach.
- To promote confident parenting by education, demonstrating and role-modelling effective behaviours.
- Provide clinical leadership in designated areas of portfolio and practice development initiatives.
- Act as a mentor and support colleagues in the care of families.
- Stay informed about current best practices and guidelines in child health nursing.
What you'll do
- Work collaboratively in a partnership model with parents to identify their strengths and meet their individual parenting and health needs.
- Work within an interdisciplinary health care setting, provide leadership and facilitation in the management of parent education and service delivery options that is congruent with primary health care principles, Ngala’s philosophy and professional accountability.
- Provide comprehensive evidence-based information relating to early years parenting, child development and family health and well-being.
- Provide access and equity of services for people with diverse backgrounds including gender, culture and disability.
- Link families to relevant community resources.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
- Demonstrated experience in working with families with babies and young children with an understanding of family dynamics and their effects on young children.
- Postgraduate nursing experience in the area of specialty with demonstrated advanced knowledge and skill with a strength-based approach to practice.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with children and families.
- Demonstrated capacity to actively participate and work within a multidisciplinary team.
- Empathy and compassion in dealing with sensitive health issues.

Essential Qualifications and Licences
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
- The right to work in Australia
- Current National Police Clearance (valid within 6 months)
- Current Working with Children Check (or ability to apply)
- Current CPR certification
- Full, unrestricted Australian driver's license
