Summary
Provides support to the classroom teacher and overall center by reinforcing safety expectations, taking care of the resources and materials in all environments, implementing the classroom management model, and instructing children.  The child care worker also supports parents/families by establishing good rapport, positive methods of communication, and mutual care practices for children.
Essential Functions
1. Supports classroom teachers & fellow staff members by:
- Assisting in all classroom management such as preparing classroom for meals, rest time, clean up, and toiletry duties
- Reinforcing behavioral expectations in accordance with SJH policy
- Preparing materials for, and executing a variety of planned activities through 1:1, small group, and large group instruction and directed by classroom teacher
- Giving breaks and helping out as needed
- Assisting with Center opening and closing procedures, including communicating to teachers info from parents and to closing staff any pertinent information for families
2. Maintains a safe environment by:
- Coordinating the arrangement and care of the child care center including classrooms and learning centers, playgrounds, storage areas, materials and equipment
- Providing a safe physical and emotional environment that meet the needs of each individual child
- Ensuring safety of children through constant supervision by sight and/or sound
- Teaching, modeling, and promoting appropriate practices in the area of health and safety including, but not limited to, cleanliness/personal hygiene, nutrition, and safe choices
3. Supports families by:
- Developing positive rapport with children and parents
- Initiating greetings of each child/parent
- Maintaining effective and frequent communication with families, especially in the area of development progress and behavior
- Responding appropriately to questions and inquiries for information
4. Other Duties:
- Performs special projects as assigned by the Center Director.
- Light housekeeping duties
Job Requirements
Minimum Education
Required: Current CPR Heartsaver AED required within 90 days of hire
Minimum Work Experience
Required: Good communication, interpersonal, phone and customer service skills
Preferred: One year of documented experience working in a Child Care setting is preferred.
Required Licenses: Current CPR Heartsaver AED required within 90 days of hire
Functional Demands
Working Conditions
Child Care Center. Busy, noisy periods of time. Some stressful situations. Must be on-site at the St. John's Health campus or other facilitates to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Four to six hours of the day spent standing and walking. Intermittent sitting, often on the floor with children. Must be able to move from sitting on floor to standing several times per day

Parents/Families (who work in various departments in the hospital), All hospital departments, visitors, community agencies, sales representatives
