Join the City of Durango Parks and Recreation team as a Child Care Attendant in the Recreation Center’s Babysitting Room You’ll supervise children up to age 8, develop and lead crafts and activities, and create a safe, welcoming environment while they are in the care of Parks and Recreation staff. This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys working with children, takes initiative in planning activities, and can confidently manage a variety of behaviors while keeping the space organized and engaging.

Examples of duties

What You’ll Do in This Role:

  • Supervise children up to age 8 continuously while they are in the Babysitting Room
  • Take initiative in developing and leading fun, age-appropriate crafts and activities
  • Communicate clear expectations and directions to children and Babysitting Room users
  • Monitor children and activities to maintain a safe and appropriate environment
  • Keep the Babysitting Room organized, clean, and tidy
  • Verify payment or membership access for Babysitting Room users
  • Confirm that children are released only to authorized individuals
  • Maintain required Babysitting Room records and paperwork
  • Attend required staff meetings and training sessions
  • Arrive on time and prepared for assigned shifts
  • Follow department policies and procedures and represent the City of Durango professionally
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required

Qualifications

You Have:

  • Education or training in working with children through recreation, education, scouting, 4-H, or a related setting
  • Experience in a childcare, school, camp, or similar setting is preferred
  • Ability to obtain CPR, first aid, and automated external defibrillator (AED) certification

You Will Succeed in This Role If You:

  • Communicate clearly and work effectively with children, families, and coworkers
  • Stay attentive and engaged while supervising children and responding to their needs
  • Use good judgment when managing different behaviors, activities, and situations
