Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is committed to helping Georgia become a national leader in behavioral and mental health through an endowment greater than $550 million, one of the largest investments in child mental health by a healthcare system in U.S. history. Established in 2019, the initiative is focused on expansive, integrated clinical and research programs.
Behavioral and mental health is a rapidly growing service line seeing patients within Children’s three Emergency Departments and hospitals and across the spectrum of care of outpatient clinics, including the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Zalik Behavioral and Mental Health Center, which was announced in 2022 from a transformational donation of 10 acres of land by the Zalik Foundation.
• Opened in 2023, the Zalik Center provides a balance of prevention and outpatient treatment services. It serves as a central location for nearly 80 transdisciplinary Children’s providers and community partners to come together to deliver evidence-based care to kids throughout Georgia.
• In 2024, Children’s announced a transformational $10 million gift from Michele and David Hirsch to support the development of a transdisciplinary program that will treat behavioral impairments in children with complex neuropsychiatric conditions.
• In 2025, our outpatient team completed nearly 40,000 appointments and cared for more than 5,000 new patients with a primary behavioral and mental health diagnosis.
