The Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission (GWIC) is seeking an exceptional regulatory leader to join our executive leadership cohort as Chief Steward.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced racing integrity professional to lead stewarding operations across NSW and play a pivotal role in protecting the integrity, welfare and public confidence of the greyhound racing industry.

As Chief Steward, you will provide strategic leadership to a geographically dispersed team of Stewards, oversee major metropolitan racing meetings, lead complex disciplinary processes, and contribute to the development of contemporary regulatory frameworks that support fair, transparent and accountable racing outcomes.

Reporting to the Director, this role sits at the forefront of racing integrity regulation and requires a highly credible leader capable of operating in a complex and highly scrutinised environment.

The Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission is an independent statutory regulator established under the Greyhound Racing Act 2017

Our purpose is to promote and protect greyhound welfare, safeguard the integrity of racing and betting, and maintain public confidence in the NSW greyhound racing industry.

As a trusted, fair, firm and impartial regulator, we work collaboratively with industry participants, government agencies and stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of welfare, compliance and integrity.

The role

As Chief Steward, you will:

  • Lead and manage the NSW stewarding function, providing direction, oversight and capability development for stewarding staff across the state.
  • Chair major metropolitan race meetings and oversee the conduct of stewarding operations at race meetings .
  • Provide expert advice to the Chief Executive Officer and Director s on integrity, compliance and regulatory matters.
  • Lead complex disciplinary proceedings and regulatory decisions in accordance with legislative and procedural requirements.
  • Drive consistency and excellence in stewarding practices through the development of policies, procedures, standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strengthen intelligence-led integrity operations, including the identification of wagering anomalies, race-fixing risks and other integrity threats.
  • Foster productive relationships with industry participants, racing clubs and key stakeholders.
  • Lead a workplace culture of professionalism, accountability, integrity and continuous improvement.

About you

We are seeking a highly respected racing integrity professional with demonstrated experience leading regulatory, compliance or stewarding functions within a racing or comparable integrity environment. You will bring:

  • stewarding or regulatory experience, ideally within the greyhound, thoroughbred or harness racing industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing professional teams within a regulatory, compliance, investigative or enforcement setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of racing rules, legislation, evidentiary requirements and disciplinary processes.
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Proven ability to lead organisational change, foster capability development and drive operational excellence.

Essential requirements for this role:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or significant equivalent experience.
  • A current unrestricted driver's licence.
  • Willingness to undertake regular travel throughout NSW.
  • Availability to work weekends, evenings and public holidays as required by racing operations.
