container terminals operate as independent companies, with board level
management, technical planning and investment decisions at TIL’s Geneva
headquarters. To strengthen the leadership team in Geneva we are looking for a
Chief Safety & Security Officer (CSSO). This senior executive role will be responsible
for safeguarding global container terminal operations through an integrated
approach to safety, security, resilience, and geopolitical risk management.
This role is ideally
suited to a leader with extensive experience in international security,
crisis leadership, capable of operating at the intersection of global
trade and critical infrastructure protection.
The main
responsibilities will entail:
1. Company Security,
Safety & Resilience Strategy
Define and lead a
globally integrated Safety, Security & Resilience strategy across all
terminal operations
Align operational
priorities with evolving geopolitical, regulatory, and trade environments
Advise CEO and Board
on strategic risks impacting global supply chains and port infrastructure
2. Safety &
Operational Risk Oversight
Ensure best-in-class
safety standards across terminal operations
Drive a
high-performance safety culture using data-led insights and leadership
engagement
Align safety practices
across diverse regulatory environments and jurisdictions and with internal
standards
Address convergence of
cyber and physical threats in automated and digitized port environments
3. Infrastructure
& Asset Protection
Safeguard terminal
assets, real estate, and critical infrastructure across international
locations
Oversee secure design
and development of new terminal projects and upgrades
Ensure integration of
physical, personnel, and technical security systems
4. Security
Governance & Policy
Develop global
policies, standards, and assurance frameworks for safety and security
Lead intelligence-led
security operations, integrating insights from government and industry
networks
Oversee investigations
into major incidents, fraud, cargo theft, or regulatory breaches
5. Business
Continuity & Operational Resilience
Design and implement
enterprise-wide resilience frameworks ensuring continuity of port
operations under stress scenarios
Integrate crisis
preparedness across terminals, including extreme weather, conflict zones,
and supply chain shocks
Minimum Qualifications/Experience/Skill: - Advanced academic background, any additional Executive leadership training is a plus especially in AI and Strategic Management
- 20+ years in international leadership roles spanning security, crisis management, and government relations
- Proven experience operating in high-risk, politically complex, and globally distributed environments
- Strong track record of crisis leadership and incident response
-Experience managing large, multi-disciplinary, globally dispersed teams (200+ personnel)
- Background in national security, diplomacy, or international policy highly relevant
- Deep expertise in geopolitical risk and international security frameworks
- Exceptional stakeholder management at ministerial, ambassadorial, and executive levels
- Ability to translate complex political and security dynamics into operational strategy
- Native English speaker
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
