Chief Risk Officer - 5 Year Contract

The Water Research Commission (WRC) invites suitably qualified and experienced individuals to apply for the Pretoria-based position of Chief Risk Officer.

About the role

This position calls for an independent results-driven strategic thinker who will be accountable for the risk management operations and compliance of the WRC. The Chief Risk Officer will form part of the Office of the Chief Executive Officer and will report to the Executive: Operations.

The position of Chief Risk Officer will be responsible to provide strategic direction in implementing and performing ongoing management of risks, ethics, business continuity and compliance frameworks by leveraging people, processes, and technology transformation opportunities. This includes leading and managing compliance functions, risk management functions, as well as ethics functions.

Requirements

Applicants must be in possession of a three-year NQF level 7 qualification in Internal Audit/Risk management/Accounting or a related field and must be a member of the Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA). A post-graduate qualification in a related field will be an added advantage. A minimum of 10 years experience in risk management within the Public Sector is required, 5 years of which should be in management position(s). The applicants must have knowledge of legislative prescripts and framework governing the public entities as well as all administrative processes and procedures (Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Treasury Regulations, Water Research Act etc.). Furthermore, the applicant must have knowledge of Risk Management Framework by National Treasury (Public Sector Risk Management), Corporate governance - King IV, and COSO and ISO.
