A Brief Overview
As Chief Risk Officer (CRO) of RGA's Bermuda operations, this position is responsible for oversight of all aspects of risk management for RGA's Bermuda-domiciled operating companies. This includes assessing, reporting, and mitigating the various risks of RGA's Bermuda-domiciled operating companies. The CRO will review new regulatory requirements, engage with the Bermuda Monetary Authority and respond to consultation papers and proposed standards as applicable. In addition, the CRO will participate in and lead governance activities.
What you will do
Accountable for Bermuda operation’s comprehensive risk management framework, aligning with global and regulatory ERM policy, standards, processes, and reporting requirements. Ensure policies, processes, and controls are appropriate, sustainable, well documented, and meet regulatory obligations.
Provides risk management guidance and constructive review/challenge that enables the legal entities to make informed decisions to achieve strategic and financial objectives.
Responsible for the completion of the legal entities Solvency Self-Assessment (the legal entities’ ORSA). Lead and help prepare various regulatory filings.
Keep up with new developments with respect to the risk management and regulation, capital, products, and emerging risks.
Fosters ERM to be an embedded and forward-thinking part of culture and processes. Champions risk management culture and change management and continuous improvement efforts to systematically improve risk management performance.
Liaises with individuals across a wide variety of leadership, operational, functional and technical disciplines.
Participate with the management group to establish and support purpose, goals, and objectives of the respective legal entities.
Understand the products, risks, flow of business, accounting methodology, and capital calculations related to internal and external reinsurance, retrocession, and related transactions for the legal entity.
May perform management duties including, but not limited to, hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining direct reports. Fosters a positive and engaged work environment. Mentors associates and gives guidance on associate development.
Respond, in coordination with other groups, to regulatory and client requests. Act as key liaison with the Bermuda Monetary Authority.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Math, Finance, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or related field required
Advanced degree in financial-related field preferred
10+ Years of experience in life and/or annuity insurance or reinsurance required
Exposure to multiple regulatory, accounting and capital regimes preferred
Expert knowledge of risk management and economic capital requirements required
Advanced knowledge of life, health, or annuity insurance products required
Advanced actuarial technical skills required
Advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received. Expert ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines required
Advanced investigative, analytical and problem solving skills required
Advanced skills in customer relationship management and change management. Advanced ability to translate business needs and problems into viable/accepted solutions required
Expert ability to manage multiple projects and/or teams simultaneously. Expert ability to balance detail with departmental goals/objectives required
Highly advanced persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers required
Expert ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through strategic planning and the implementation and evaluation of programs and policies required
Advanced knowledge of broad business practices required
Working knowledge of key technologies including Office applications, databases, actuarial software, and analytic tools required
Advanced understanding of Bermuda insurance regulations and capital requirements; Advanced understanding of insurance or reinsurance reporting; Advanced understanding of US GAAP, statutory, and tax reporting required
Fellowship, Society of Actuaries (FSA) or equivalent actuarial designation required
