Job Description

About Flourish

Flourish Health delivers intensive, team-based psychiatric care for adolescents and young adults with serious mental illness, delivered virtually and in the home. We work primarily with youth in Medicaid and are also expanding to commercially insured youth. We are scaling nationally, partnering with payers to reach young people who would otherwise cycle through emergency rooms and inpatient units. Our patients see clinically significant improvement within 6 weeks.

We are a Series A company. The next two years are about expanding nationally, reaching cash-flow positive, and maintaining our high bar for clinical excellence. This role will help lead decision-making on tradeoffs in this national expansion.

About the Role

We are hiring a senior level Chief of Staff to lead and support executive decision-making. You will report directly to the CEO and be part of the senior leadership team. You will own the company’s operating plan: forecasting, budgeting, the KPI system, and the effort to close the gap between the care we deliver and the care we are paid for. You will also be the CEO’s thought partner on priorities and lead a small portfolio of cross-functional initiatives that don’t belong cleanly to any one department.

You will partner closely with the CEO, C-suite, department leaders, and our fractional CFO. This is a hands-on strategic operating role: you will move between executive-level decisions, detailed financial and operational models, and cross-functional implementation. For the initiatives you own, no job is too small, and no task is beneath you. Our leaders earn team respect by doing ground-level work.

Because we are early stage, this is the most versatile role in the company and the one most likely to change. This description captures today's needs; the role will evolve with the business.

What You’ll Own

Strategic Partnership to the CEO

  • Serve as a thought partner to the CEO on scenario modeling, resource allocation and growth.
  • Maintain Flourish’s decision making based on our three pillars: patient care, employee experience, and financial sustainability.
  • Prepare the analyses and materials that drive leadership team decisions.

Supply, Demand & Capacity Planning

  • Own supply-and-demand forecasting across patient demand, staffing, clinical capacity, geography, payer, and service type.
  • Identify emerging capacity constraints or excess capacity early and recommend specific interventions.
  • Establish a regular planning cadence through which leaders review forecasts, update assumptions, and make decisions.

Discounted Services

  • Own the cross-functional effort to reduce the gap between services Flourish delivers and services for which Flourish is reimbursed.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of which patients and services are discounted, unreimbursed, or at risk of nonpayment, and identify the underlying causes.
  • Partner with clinical, revenue cycle, contracting, growth, product, and operations teams to address root causes.

Budgeting & Financial Forecasting

  • Partner with the CEO and fractional CFO to develop annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and longer-term financial plans.
  • Help department leaders understand their budgets and the financial implications of operating decisions.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast, investigate material variances, and recommend adjustments.
  • Support scenario planning related to hiring, growth, payer or geographic expansion, service changes, and other strategic investments.

Company Performance & KPIs

  • Partner with the C-suite and department leaders to translate company goals into KPIs that measure clinical quality, patient access, engagement, operational performance, growth, and financial health.
  • Own Flourish’s company-wide KPI system, including data validation, dashboards, reporting, and performance reviews.
  • Analyze performance to identify trends, risks, and gaps for executive discussion.

Cross-Functional Initiatives

  • Lead a focused portfolio of high-priority initiatives that do not sit cleanly within one department.
  • Identify risks and conflicts that require executive attention and bring them forward with clear options.

Create accountability across teams while ensuring department leaders retain ownership of their results.

What You Bring

Required:

  • 10+ years of experience in strategic operations, finance, business operations, consulting, healthcare operations, or a related analytical leadership role.
  • Exceptional quantitative and financial skills, including advanced spreadsheet modeling, forecasting, budgeting, and scenario analysis.
  • Ability to move fluently between strategic thinking and detailed execution, including personally building and maintaining models.
  • Highly organized and persistent, with exceptional attention to detail and a track record of creating structure in evolving environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to make a complex financial picture clear to clinicians, operators, and a Board.
  • Commitment to balancing financial sustainability with clinical quality, patient safety, and access to care.

Preferred:

  • Experience in healthcare services, value-based care, Medicaid, revenue cycle, workforce planning, or multi-site clinical operations.
  • Experience in a high-growth or early-stage healthcare company, ideally through a Series A to Series B transition.
  • Experience partnering directly with a CEO or founder.
