SPECIAL NOTES:

This is an internal agency employment opportunity for current employees, including OPS, of the Department of Financial Services, the Office of Financial Regulation, and the Office of Insurance Regulation.

Requirements:

  • Four (4) or more years of supervisory and/or managerial experience is required. A post-secondary degree may be used as an alternative for the years of experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience writing detailed chronological reports.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Knowledge of Chapter 440, Florida Statutes, and workers’ compensation administrative rules.
  • Licensed to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to travel overnight.

Preferences:

  • Five (5) or more years of regulatory and/or investigative experience.
  • Two (2) or more years of knowledge of workers’ compensation.
  • Two (2) or more years public speaking or presentation skills
  • One (1) or more years of experience in creating and managing data in Microsoft Excel.
  • The ability to speak and write both Spanish and English.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge of basic management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Chapter 440, Florida Statutes, and Florida Administrative Code.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document workflow and other activities relating to the improvement of management practices.
  • Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents, and other written materials.
  • Ability to conduct fact-finding research.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.

Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The incumbent in this position provides leadership and has the general responsibility for the functions of their Bureau, determines the bureau’s organizational structure on an ongoing basis; implements changes as needed; and designs and implements a program of work assignments to appropriate Bureau personnel to carry out the legislative mandates found in section 440 Florida Statutes.

The incumbent reports directly to the Assistant Director on the work of the Bureau including monthly reporting of key performance indicators and alerting the Assistant Director to any relevant issues concerning the Bureau. The incumbent is expected to create a strategic plan for his Bureau with measurable outcomes and deliverables.

The incumbent collects, monitors, and analyzes data to evaluate the performance of the Bureau, capitalizes on opportunities for improvement, and takes corrective action whenever necessary in order to optimize the Bureau’s performance.

The incumbent deals with personnel matters such as hiring, firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary matters and grievances. The incumbent is responsible for providing appropriate training and growth opportunities for all associates within the Bureau.

The incumbent manages the Bureau’s budget allocation and maintains a cash receipts system within the requirements of the law and sound accounting principles. The incumbent is responsible for maximizing the resources of the Bureau.
