Job Description


The Chief Mining Engineer will be responsible for providing strategic and technical leadership across all mining engineering functions within the iron ore operation. This role oversees mine planning, design, scheduling, drill and blast activities, production optimization, cost control, and compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
The incumbent will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient ore extraction, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across the mining value chain. The Chief Mining Engineer will also lead and mentor the engineering team, ensuring effective execution of short, medium, and long-term mine plans to support MML’s production and growth objectives.Responsibilities:
 Provide overall leadership and direction to the geological team, ensuring strong performance, accountability, and alignment with operational goals.
 Ensure all geological activities comply with safety, environmental, and statutory requirements, while promoting a strong safety culture. Oversee daily geological operations to support mine planning, production efficiency, and optimal ore extraction.
 Ensure accurate and timely grade control processes, including sampling, logging, and ore-waste delineation, to support production quality.
 Monitor ore quality and ensure delivery of material to the processing plant meets required specifications and grade targets.
 Supervise geological data collection, validation, and interpretation to ensure reliable inputs for resource and reserve modelling.
 Manage geological modelling, block model updates, and reconciliation with production data using relevant software such as Surpac, Leapfrog, or Vulcan.
 Contribute to the preparation and updating of JORC (or NI 43-101) compliant resource and reserve reports.
 Design, implement, and manage near-mine exploration and infill drilling programs to support continuous resource improvement.
 Collaborate effectively with mine planning, production, metallurgy, and environmental teams by providing timely geological insights to support both short- and long-term planning.
 Senior staffs are expected to conduct comprehensive training and development programs for junior staffs under their supervision as a key part of their daily responsibilities. This includes facilitating skills development, ensuring effective knowledge transfer, and promoting capacity-building initiatives that are aligned with the organization's goals. The objective is to enhance the growth and efficiency of the team, contributing to the overall success of the organization.


Requirements


Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline.
 A Master’s degree in Geology or an MBA is considered an added advantage.
 Minimum of 10 years’ experience in mining geology, preferably within iron ore operations.
 At least 3–5 years of experience in a senior or supervisory capacity.
 Strong technical knowledge of grade control systems, exploration processes, and resource modelling.
 Proficiency in geological software such as Surpac, Leapfrog, Vulcan, or Datamine.
 Familiarity with geological QA/QC procedures and reporting standards, including JORC and NI 43-101.
 Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
