Job Title: Chief Metallurgist

Reporting directly to the Mill Manager, the Chief Metallurgist is responsible for leading the metallurgy team. You’ll be part of a high-performing team where your ideas matter, your skills grow, and your work shapes the future of Eskay Creek.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Operations Readiness:

  • Create and implement daily metallurgical accounting sheet, plan for monthly reconciliations for concentrate tracking.

  • Work with the mining team to develop rolling geo-metallurgical test work program to optimize future mill performance.

  • Refine and improve upon existing recovery models

  • Implement best practices and lessons learned from previous operations to optimize readiness and performance.

Operations:

  • Lead, manage, and develop the process and metallurgy teams, fostering a high-performance and safety-first culture.

  • Provide technical leadership for all processing activities, including commissioning, and ongoing operational support

  • Develop and manage metallurgical models, forecasts, and budgets

  • Assess and implement new technologies, equipment, and methods to boost processing performance

  • Oversee major sustaining capital projects to improve mill performance

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Develop SOX standard accounting processes.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits, regulatory standards, and corporate policies.

  • Identify and mitigate operations readiness-related risks proactively.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • All other duties as reasonably assigned

The Ideal Candidate

Education / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree in metallurgy, mineral processing or in a related discipline is preferred

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in British Columbia or eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC)

Experience / Skills

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive senior or supervisory metallurgy experience in the industry.

  • Experience managing diverse teams in challenging conditions.

  • Has consistently demonstrated strong leadership skills

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly, listen actively, and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

  • Ability to work cooperatively, support colleagues, and contribute to a positive, inclusive work environment

  • Adaptable and able to respond to changing conditions, learn quickly, and solve problems effectively.

  • Commitment to safe work practices, personal accountability, and respect for the well-being of others.

Work Location & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.     

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.    

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.      

Compensation
The expected salary range for this position is CAD 140,000-190,000, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
