Chief Mechanic Offshore Jackup Rig

Location: Qatar Offshore (Qatar Petroleum, North Field, or Contracted Rigs)

Employment Type: Rotational (e.g., 28 days on/28 days off)

Reporting To: Rig Manager / OIM (Offshore Installation Manager)

Key Responsibilities:

1. Mechanical Systems Oversight

· Lead maintenance/repairs of jackup rig mechanical systems, including:

Leg jacking systems (rack & pinion, hydraulic elevators)
Main engines (CAT, Wartsila, or MAK diesels)
Power generation (generators, switchgear)
Hydraulic systems (cranes, BOP controls)
Pumping systems (ballast, firewater, fuel transfer)

2. Compliance & Safety

Ensure adherence to Qatar Energy (QP) standards, IMO regulations, and SHEQ policies.
Conduct risk assessments for critical maintenance (e.g., jacking system overhauls).
Enforce PTW (Permit to Work) and LOTO (Lockout-Tagout) procedures.

3. Team Leadership

Supervise mechanical crew (assistant mechanics, electricians, and subcontractors).
Coordinate with Qatar-based onshore support for major spares/logistics.

4. Emergency Response

Act as first responder for mechanical failures (e.g., loss of jacking control, engine room fires).
Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment breakdowns.

5. Documentation

Maintain logs for Class surveys (ABS, DNV) and Qatar Ministry of Energy audits.
Report downtime incidents to Qatar Petroleum (QP) or Nakilat if vessel is chartered.

Requirements:

Qualifications & Certifications
Education: Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Experience: 10+ years offshore (5+ as Chief Mechanic on jackups).

Certifications:

o OPITO/BOSIET (Offshore Survival)

o HUET (Helicopter Safety)

o Qatar-specific:

§ QP (Qatar Petroleum) Safety Passport

§ Qatar Ministry of Public Health Medical Fitness

o Technical:

§ SAP or CMMS (Maintenance Software Proficiency)

§ HVAC/R (for living quarters systems)

Expected Salary in Qatar (2025)
