Job Description

The role of a Chief Geotechnical Expert in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority Orange Gate Tunnel Project is highly critical because the project involves deep underground tunneling beneath dense urban infrastructure, railway lines, metro corridors, utilities, and coastal geology conditions. The tunnel is one of Mumbai’s most complex underground infrastructure projects, stretching between Orange Gate and Marine Drive.

  • Lead detailed geotechnical investigations including borehole studies, rock and soil sampling, laboratory testing, and geological mapping.
  • Assess soil strata, rock quality, groundwater conditions, fault zones, and marine geology conditions.
  • Review and approve Geotechnical Baseline Reports (GBR) and Geotechnical Interpretative Reports (GIR).
  • Identify underground utilities and subsurface obstructions before tunneling works begin.
  • Provide geotechnical parameters for tunnel lining, excavation support systems, shaft design, and retaining structures.
  • Analyze groundwater table and seepage conditions.
  • Design dewatering and groundwater control systems.
  • Ensure tunneling does not adversely affect nearby foundations or underground infrastructure.
  • Monitor saline water intrusion risks due to coastal alignment
  • Supervise geotechnical aspects of Tunnel Boring Machine operations.
  • Monitor face pressure, cutter head performance, soil conditioning, and segmental lining behavior.
  • Review daily excavation logs and ground movement data.
  • Recommend corrective actions during adverse ground conditions
  • Graduate in Civil Engineering
  • Total 15 years of professional experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in similar capacity
  • Should have experience of at least 2 Highway road/ Metro/ Railway Projects
