The Chief Flight Instructor oversees all aspects of the Airline Transport Pilot Certification Training Program (ATP-CTP) to ensure safe and compliant delivery. This role blends regulatory compliance with operational leadership. As the central point of contact for FAA representatives and instructors, the Chief Flight Instructor drives program excellence, regulatory compliance, and client satisfaction.

  1. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Regulatory Compliance

  • Serve as the primary liaison with the FAA and other regulators.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA requirements through proactive audits, meticulous record-keeping, and documentation management.
  • Oversee instructor credentialing, prerequisites, and regulatory documentation.
  • Conduct initial and recurrent instructor training.

Operational Oversight

  • ATP-CTP operations oversight, ensuring efficient, safe, and compliant training delivery.
  • Ensure staff develops and publishes training schedules, balancing simulator capacity, instructor assignments, and student demand.
  • Ensure staff monitors student progress in the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring timely completion and certification issuance.
  • Ensure staff resolves operational disruptions with real-time contingency planning, including weekends and evenings.
  • Ensure staff maintains and updates SOPs to align with regulatory standards and best practices.
  • SME oversight for ground instruction.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide leadership and direction to instructors in collaboration with the Training Manager and Lead Instructors.
  • Act as the central point of contact for instructors, vendors, and partner airlines.
  • Foster a culture of instructional quality, safety, and customer excellence.
  • Drive continuous improvements in training operations, scalability, and client satisfaction.

Business Development

  • Identify, plan, and execute the launch of new satellite training centers.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications

  • Must hold an FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with a fixed-wing, airplane category, multi-engine class rating.
  • Must hold, or obtain prior to beginning instruction, a current FAA Certified Flight Instructor Certificate (CFI or CFII or MEI).
  • No history of accidents or license suspensions.
  • Must be type-rated on the B737 aircraft or A320 aircraft. Need not be current.
  • At least 2 years’ experience as pilot-in-command at an FAA Part 121, Part 135 or Part 91 air carrier or 2 years’ experience as second-in-command at a Part 121 air carrier.
  • Experience as either a current or former line check airman or simulator instructor is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to function effectively in a high-paced training environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing training needs when selecting offered sessions.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 5–7 years in aviation training or simulator management.
  • Strong background in FAA regulatory compliance and resource management.
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams in a training or aviation environment.

Skills

  • Commitment to high-quality instruction and positive client experience.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt quickly.
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills, able to interact with regulators, airline partners, and students.
  • Proficiency in LMS systems, scheduling software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
