Chief Finnancial Officer

Role: Chief Financial Officer

Location: Port of Spain, Trinidad

MISSION:

Defining and maintaining efficient processes designed to provide accurate financial information, proper control and compliance. Evaluating risks and rewards of operational actions and strategic options in order to support business decision making and for contributing to the achievement of the company’s objectives through the optimization of resources, assets and liabilities while minimizing risk exposure.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Area of responsibility 1: Team Management

  • Performance management including performance reviews and development plans.
  • Anticipates human impact of changes and sets actions to ensure proper change implementation.
  • Ensures team development and proactively engages with HR to ensure gap analysis
  • Provides direction of work as required.
  • Energizes and motivates staff and generates personal commitment.
  • Recruits staff in conjunction with HR, implement processes for integrating employees into the position, according to company need, to ensure success and return on investment.
  • Supports the professional development of the team: analyze training needs, prepare job descriptions
  • Coaches team members and promotes a culture of feedback through dialogue and regular sessions of appraisal.
  • Be a leader that inspires and promotes an environment of confidence and partnership.

Area of responsibility 2 Strategic thinking and business partnership (financial planning and analysis)

  • Provides the General Manager with dashboards, analysis and recommendations allowing him/her to evaluate the financial performance of the company and make the decisions based on same.
  • Support Top Management in M&A operations.
  • Proposes amendments, updates etc., of processes to the General Manager related to reporting, control, budgeting and planning, performance monitoring and analysis, tax compliance and fiscal optimization as well as legal compliance and administrative processes by keeping a strong commercial acumen
  • Drives the promotion of a financial culture among non-financial managers in the affiliate by communicating proactively on the role of finance, training operational managers on key financial concepts and infusing a financial approach in the decision-making processes.
  • Constant analysis of possible cost reductions and revenue increases;
  • Interaction with Directors as required, to promote initiatives, sound alternatives in order to optimize the operations and find opportunities to improve the business.
  • To contribute to the strategic and budget planning by translating the decisions into figures, evaluating their financial impact and forecasting the financial needs required to implement the decided action plan.
  • Manage the financial resources of the company in such a way to facilitate the smooth development of the activity and the achievement of the targets.

Area of responsibility 3: Treasury Management (Accounts Payable and Receivable)

  • Rigid control of ageing balance in order to maintain and ultimately exceed the benchmark level of collections and remittances to HO.
  • Follow up of all trade and corporate payments’ processes, assuring that all invoices are approved as per contracts’ conditions and on time.
  • Manage the cash flow, ensuring timely payments, receipt from customers within established terms and remittance to HO as per company policy and guidelines.
  • Implement new policies and procedures related to Credit, Collection and Treasury to reduce risk and to be aligned with audit and group policies.
  • Work in connection with Shared Service Centres ensuring that services are provided on time and with the best possible quality.
  • When needed, lead and/or be part of negotiations with customers by attending meetings with Sales Management.
  • Maintain a good level of collections and a balanced cash flow.

Area of responsibility 4: Accounting and taxes

  • Ensures all tax obligations across the group of countries is paid / reported on time, minimising risk and penalties.
  • Provides recommendations based on the analytical results to top management, creates and analyses dashboards for the operational management.
  • Analyse, comment and follow-up yearly budgets, analyse variations and propose action plans to achieve/improve targets.
  • Implement internal control procedures for all countries in scope
  • Coordinate with all relevant parties on all fiscal topics.
  • Prepares the reporting for consolidation purpose of the general ledger under IFRS rules at HO level.
  • Proposes new tools and/or processes to assist the business in improving its performance while maintaining a strict internal control.
  • Ensures optimization of tax savings as appropriate for all entities.
  • Manage all internal and external audits, ensures timely completion
  • Contribute to the increase in performance of the affiliates by providing the operational decision maker with dashboards, analyses and recommendations.
  • Audit reports issued without qualifications.

MANAGEMENT SCOPE

The position manages the local Finance team and the finance team in the associated entities across the Caribbean. Establishes and maintains good relationships with Regional Office.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Ideally, the candidate should have the following:

  • ACCA Qualified and/or Masters in Finance / Accounting
  • Microsoft Office and Proficiency with Accounting Software
  • Communication Skills: Proficient in written and oral communication, must be comfortable doing presentations virtually and in person
  • Experience:
  • Minium of 10 years’ experience in a similar role, experience in a multi-national company an asset.
  • Experience with managing Accounting / Finance across the region and a good comprehension of the tax requirements as asset
  • Experience managing multiple audits an asset
