Job Description

The Organisation

Sydney Metro is Australia's biggest public transport program, developing, delivering and operating multiple lines and 113 kilometres of new metro railway to transform the way Sydney travels.

The City and Northwest Metro lines are already in operation, to be followed by the Southwest line extension, the Western Sydney Airport metro, and Metro West from Hunter Street to Westmead by 2032.

The Role

As Chief Executive, you will lead the strategic direction, delivery and operational performance of Sydney Metro, shaping the long-term future of Australia’s most significant integrated metro programs.

Leading in a highly complex and accountable environment, you will provide accurate and transparent advice to the Minister and Board and collaborate strongly with Transport and central agencies, ensuring alignment with NSW Government priorities and maintaining public confidence.

This is not a traditional major project leadership role; you bring a multifaceted leadership approach, balancing financial stewardship, stakeholder alignment and delivery execution. With three mega-projects currently in delivery, you recognise the importance of rapidly establishing leadership continuity, and mitigating delivery risks to ensure safe and reliable metro services are delivered on time and on budget.

About you

You are recognised as a decisive and credible leader, skilled at bringing clarity to complexity, aligning stakeholders and delivering results in dynamic, high-pressure environments. Your commercial acumen and mega project delivery experience formed across large-scale transport, infrastructure or similarly complex public environments will see you lead with impact in a high-stakes, time-critical context. You have successfully resolved complex and significant commercial, financial or delivery issues in a challenging multi stakeholder environment including government, regulators, contractors and the community.

With a strong public sector mindset, you operate with discipline, transparency and integrity, and are experienced in working within government frameworks and processes. Your background may include delivering mega rail, road, utility or precinct projects or similar challenges including program management, strategic and complex commercial negotiations, procurement and contract management.
