Position Summary

The CEO is responsible for establishing credibility and trust with leadership, peers, and subordinates in the Florida Market. This role involves driving the creation of a vision, strategic plan, and cohesive culture across care sites. The CEO will oversee physician practices, engaging with physicians to align with Tenet Health's mission and values, enhance integration of primary and specialty care, and implement efficient business practices. By focusing on productivity, cost containment, and patient satisfaction, the CEO will assess organizational needs, foster a culture of engagement, and position the organization for continued success and significant growth in the evolving healthcare landscape. The CEO must have advanced understanding of physician practice start-up requirements, RVU principles and concepts, billing/collections, accounts receivable management, employee supervision, managed care, patient relations, physician credentialing, medical office policies/procedures, marketing, coding HER/Practice Management IT systems, and MGMA benchmarks.

Responsibilities

The successful Chief Executive Officer, Tenet Physician Resources candidate will:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve organizational goals, providing leadership in planning, organizing, monitoring, and improving the operations and quality of programs and services to physician-owned practices.
  • Lead the development and execution of innovative initiatives to enhance patient care quality, operational efficiency, and provider satisfaction.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with physicians and providers, promoting collaboration, engagement, and alignment with Tenet Health's mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
  • Drive the transformation and integration to a results-oriented, patient-first culture, ensuring standard practices and common metrics across operations, geographies, and specialties, while addressing unique needs.
  • Facilitate, implement, and provide efficient administrative support for existing physician/provider practices and physician/provider recruitment related to ambulatory clinics, new practice start-ups, and divestiture activities.
  • Advocate for the needs and interests of physicians and providers, addressing concerns and implementing initiatives to enhance provider satisfaction and retention.
  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit, onboard, and support new clinicians, ensuring alignment with Tenet Health's organizational culture and values.
  • Partner with system leadership to ensure top-tier patient experience and consistency across the care continuum.
  • Engage physicians and providers in process improvement and the sharing of best practices across markets.
  • Evaluate current operations, policies, and processes using standard metrics and analysis, identifying opportunities to further align clinical operations
  • Lead with a solid understanding of various service lines and delivery models within all markets, collaborating to develop plans for expansion of services, performance improvement, and/or consolidation based on market demographics and facility/service line volume projections.
  • Oversee the implementation of new services, utilizing different business models and strategic relationships with external partners and physicians, supervising and coordinating the review process for all new services and acquisitions.
  • Promote a culture of the highest levels of physician, provider, and colleague engagement.
  • Lead activities that support successful financial performance and productivity of clinical and business operations, assuming accountability for the financial performance of the enterprise.
  • Oversee all physician employment agreements, professional service agreements for physicians, and any contract provisions, updates, and revisions. Negotiate and maintain necessary contracts for ambulatory medical director services, business relationship contracts, and leases in support of services within the respective service area.
  • Collaborate with patient care staff, health system administration, and shared services to promote efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
  • Establish and promote effective avenues for two-way communication between leadership, providers, and colleagues.
  • Lead a team of colleagues in human resource initiatives, including performance management, education and development, selection and retention, workforce planning, coaching and counseling, and activities that promote colleague engagement and satisfaction.
  • Lead or support financial resource functions, including managing expenses, preparing, monitoring, and executing within budget limits, monitoring productivity standards, managing the purchasing process, and making decisions related to finances for the area of responsibility.
  • Lead or support change and process improvement initiatives, striving for standard, efficient, and value-added processes, communicating a clear vision, influencing and motivating others, and developing strong relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of Tenet Physician Resources and establish positive relationships across the organization and medical group based on trust, collaboration, and mutual respect to facilitate a smooth transition.
  • Lead the formulation and implementation of an operational framework that ensures consistent, effective, and efficient practice management, fiscal discipline, strategic recruitment of providers, and the development of clinical quality programs for the advancement of the medical group.
  • Create a physician leadership development plan for key physician leaders and interested physicians.
  • Manage the integration of new practices into Tenet Physician Resources, ensuring operational and financial accountability, strengthening financial performance, and making sound business decisions while maintaining an empowered, entrepreneurial outlook.
  • Focus on maximizing profitability and return on investment (ROI) through strategic financial management and operational efficiency.
  • Foster a culture of accountability by developing business analytics, including metrics and dashboards, and evaluate the overall expense structure to reduce costs without impacting service or quality.
  • Support the clinical agenda by assessing practice performance, collaborating with the finance team to refine reporting tools that track quality and financial metrics by physician and location, and create specialized plans for each physician to grow their practice and maximize productivity.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine the physician compensation plan across all practices to gain the confidence of physicians that the plan is fair and accurate.
  • Utilize technology to support clinical work and generate data necessary to implement and drive change.
  • Stabilize market share growth and expand service lines with an emphasis on Ortho, OB/GYN, and Cardiology.
  • Improve physician engagement through strategic planning of physician and practice development in connection with the management company and respective hospital market leadership team, including physician recruitment and practice location selection.
  • Manage Physician Employment Agreement renewals by tracking term dates and assigning responsible parties.
  • Oversee Market Operations Councils, which include Hospital Administrative Team membership, and manage Physician Advisory Councils within their markets.
  • Handle initial and renewal leases for employed physician practices, ensuring consistency with proforma assumptions, and identify and track capital needs for physician practices.
  • Monitor financial results daily and weekly for employed physician practices and manage volume growth initiatives like ZocDoc and DrScore to increase patient satisfaction and volume growth.
  • Participate in monthly operations reviews with TPR and Market senior leadership, lead various meetings with physicians, practice operations, revenue cycle management, and TPR leadership, and work with practice leadership to identify opportunities for improving EBITDA and cash flows.
  • Adhere to and support Tenet's mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures, conform to the HIPAA Compliance Plan and Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement, and demonstrate support for the Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of compliance responsibilities, adhering to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies, and reporting compliance issues in a timely manner.
Candidate Qualifications Education/Certification
  • Bachelor's degree in management or a related field is required, with preference given to candidates holding an M.D., MHA, or MBA.
Knowledge and Work Experience
  • At least ten years of progressively responsible experience in medium-to-large multi-specialty group practices, including multi-site management. Proven expertise in implementing best practices, systems, and processes, along with skills in organizational standardization and transformation.
  • Required experience in healthcare system physician group practices and multispecialty practice settings. Demonstrated understanding of the business aspects of group practice management and ambulatory clinical operations.
  • Proven success in recruiting and integrating physicians.
  • Strong operational capabilities, balancing quality, patient experience, efficiency, and financial performance.
  • Extensive experience in designing physician compensation programs and a deep understanding of how to incentivize physicians.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively advocate for, retain, and manage financial and other resources necessary for success in a geographically dispersed environment.
  • Successful history of fostering positive physician relationships, developing physician leaders, and engaging them in strategic decision-making. Collaborates with physicians on clinical quality, service, and program growth. Able to work effectively with physician partners to gain confidence, cooperation, and trust.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, including the ability to assess executive talent, organize work for maximum impact, recruit and engage new employees, and develop accountability systems for measuring performance and ensuring progress toward agreed-upon goals.
