Chief Estimator – Lead Complex Commercial & Remote Builds for UNIT COMPANY

Job Overview

• Company: UNIT COMPANY.
• Salary/Pay Rate: $150,000 – $200,000 per year plus Annual Bonus.
• Location: Anchorage, AK (Onsite with approximately 10% travel).

The Opportunity

You will take full ownership of preconstruction estimating across Alaska, driving high-stakes bids from initial concept to final award. You will lead cost strategy on complex commercial, federal, and remote builds during an unprecedented boom in statewide infrastructure. Your leadership will directly shape the skyline and rural facilities of Alaska alongside a premier builder approaching 50 years of excellence.

How You Will Make an Impact

• Lead comprehensive vertical estimates from conceptual programming through final design-build packages.
• Model complex Arctic freight, seasonal barge windows, and off-road mobilization logistics.
• Interpret FAR guidelines, Davis-Bacon requirements, and public procurement standards to protect margins.
• Perform complete quantity takeoffs across architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical trades.
• Level subcontractor proposals rigorously to eliminate bid-day scope gaps and ensure pricing accuracy.
• Collaborate directly with project management teams to validate constructability, sequencing, and labor risks.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum of 5 to 10 years of dedicated vertical construction estimating experience.
• Demonstrated track record estimating both road-system and remote Alaskan or cold-weather projects.
• In-depth working knowledge of government-funded commercial construction procurement rules.
• High proficiency with digital estimating software including Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Sage, or ProEst.
• Valid state driver's license with the ability to travel to remote project sites.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• 10 or more years of end-to-end commercial estimating leadership experience.
• Extensive hands-on experience pricing Design-Build and CM/GC project delivery methods.
• Deep professional network and strong familiarity with Alaska regional labor markets and subcontractors.
