Position Summary: The Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring all hotel facilities, equipment, and systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. This role oversees the maintenance team, implements preventive maintenance programs, and promptly addresses repairs to ensure an exceptional guest experience. This position collaborates with other departments to support hotel operations while maintaining the property’s appearance, safety, and functionality.

Pay Rate: The rate of pay listed on job boards are auto-generated numbers. Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s actual rate of pay will be determined during the hiring process.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in hotel or hospitality maintenance management.
• Strong knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building systems.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage budgets and track departmental performance metrics.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with hotel CMMS or maintenance software preferred.
• Technical certifications or degree in facilities management, engineering, or related field preferred.

Expectations & Responsibilities:

• Oversee all maintenance operations within the hotel, including guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, pools, fitness centers, and HVAC systems.
• Lead, train, and supervise maintenance staff, ensuring high performance, accountability, and professional development.
• Plan and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend the life of equipment and facilities.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies to ensure minimal disruption to guests and hotel operations.
• Inspect facilities regularly to identify and correct safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or appearance issues.
• Manage maintenance budgets, inventory of tools, supplies, and replacement parts.
• Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs or projects.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, fire codes, and hotel standards.
• Collaborate with housekeeping, front desk, and other departments to maintain an exceptional guest experience.
• Maintain records of maintenance activities and provide reports to hotel management.
• All other duties, as assigned.

Essential Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, and move around the property for extended periods.
• Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching to access equipment and perform repairs.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 lbs. regularly and occasionally heavier with assistance.
• Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and at varying heights.
• Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and machinery safely.
• Tolerance for working in a variety of environments, including hot, cold, noisy, or confined spaces.
